I've been playing French horn since I was fourteen, having switched from the trumpet to euphonium after braces and wanting to return to the upper brass. I fell in love with the horn, its range and its adaptability. And it's a love affair still going strong!
I played with the University of Aberdeen symphony orchestra throughout my degree, where I was also a committee member. Although I didn't study music, it's always been a great hobby of mine that I continue to practice with gusto.
In my early years, I played a lot of concert band music, competing at the NCBF for 8 consecutive years from 2008 - 2016. I also competed in the Ayrshire festival every year, meeting fellow musicians and learning about my musicality. In 2014, I was the French horn soloist for the Nicola Benedetti juniors flashmob orchestra, and was later invited to join the Edinburgh Incidental Orchestra in their performances at the Fringe.
I've been lucky enough to work three summers in that time at a revered performing arts summer camp in Upstate New York, where I was a French horn tutor. During that, I played in over 25 pits for full-scale musicals, a huge amount of orchestral music and taught sectionals for concerts with the likes of the New York Pops, Stephen Reineke, Michael Kosarin, multiple Broadway performers and more. It was an unforgettable experience each time I returned.
I have also toured in France and Spain, and enjoy playing with others above all else.
Although I am most acquainted with orchestral music and musical theatre scores, I'm always up for doing something new and explore my instrument in new ways, as well as meeting more musicians!
