Lauren is a pianist and composer, studying at the Purcell School with a scholarship from the government’s Music and Dance Scheme, and the Royal College of Music Junior Department. She is also a composer for the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain.
Lauren has been playing piano since age 5, and has a special interest in unconventional or contemporary repertoire, recent examples including solo pieces by Lachenmann, Tower, Feldman, and Ulstvolskaya. At the Royal College of Music, she also studies harpsichord with Jane Chapman.
Lauren has had her compositions performed widely, in venues such as the Southbank Centre, the Sage, Birmingham Symphony Hall, the Music Room at Liverpool Philharmonic Hall, Tate Britain, Snape Maltings, Morley College and the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama, by ensembles from NYOGB and the Purcell School.
At the Purcell School, Lauren studies piano under Andrew Ball, composition under Simon Speare, and clarinet with Isobel Thompson. There she is engaged with various outreach initiatives, including her own project, the Primary Pitches, a group she formed to introduce composition through graphic scoring to primary school age children.
Lauren was also selected to become a Southbank Centre WHY? festival young programmer, collaborating with the BBC Concert Orchestra to to help programme one of the WHY? Festival's flagship concerts in the Royal Festival Hall.
