Born and educated in South Derbyshire, British clarinettist Lauren Brown studied for her undergraduate degree at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, graduating with first class honours. During her time at the Guildhall, Lauren studied with Nicholas Carpenter, Andrew Webster, Andrew Marriner and Joy Farrall, as well as with Jennifer McLaren on Eb clarinet and Robert Ault on Bass. A keen orchestral musician, she has played principal clarinet with the Guildhall Symphony Orchestra, CBSO Youth Orchestra and CBSO Youth Academy as well as performing with the London Mahler Orchestra and the Docklands Sinfonia. Through this, Lauren has worked with conductors such as Bernard Haitink, Edward Gardner, Jac van Steen, Andrew Litton, Ilan Volkov and Peter Stark. Lauren has taken part in masterclasses from members of the Berlin Philharmonic, New York Philharmonic, LA Philharmonic, BBC Symphony Orchestra and the Tonhalle-Orchestra Zurich. Between August 2015 and February 2016, she completed an Erasmus exchange at the Academy of Music and Drama, University of Gothenburg in Sweden, where she is studied with Urban Claesson, principal clarinet of the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra. Lauren is currently studying for her postgraduate degree at the Royal College of Music where her teachers are Tim Lines, Richard Hosford, Michael Harris and Paul Richards. Lauren is an RCM Scholar supported by an Edward and Helen Hague Award and a Wilkins-Mackkeras Award.
