Laura Davies began learning flute when she was eight and at ten was awarded a scholarship to The Purcell School, where she was taught by Anna Pope. She has since won a scholarship to study at the Royal Academy of Music, where she learns with Karen Jones. Last year, she was accepted onto the Erasmus programme to study with Robert Winn at the Hochschule für Musik und Tanz in Cologne. She has performed in masterclasses with musicians such as William Bennett, Marisa Robles, Michael Cox, Emily Beynon and Gareth Davies.
As a member of the Purcell School Symphony Orchestra, Laura has performed at the Royal Festival Hall, Queen Elizabeth Hall and The Sage Gateshead and given solo or chamber performances at the Wigmore Hall, Buckingham Palace and St Martin-in-the-Fields. Laura was principal flute for the London Schools Symphony Orchestra, with whom she has performed at the Barbican and on tour to Poland. Her orchestral experience has led her to work with musicians such as Peter Maxwell Davies, Paul Daniel, Hans Gruber, John Rutter and, more recently, Semyon Bychkov as part of the Royal Academy of Music Symphony Orchestra. She regularly performs with the Janus Ensemble and looks forward to performing Malcolm Arnold's Concertino with them at the Malcolm Arnold Festival in October. With her trio, The Orlando Trio, she regularly performs concerts both in the UK and in Florence, Italy.
Laura has been involved in music outreach workshops both in the UK and in South Korea as part of the Purcell School's 'Impulse' project. Alongside her studies, Laura teaches the flute privately.
