Lan Hu was born to a family of musicians in Shenyang, China, and started to learn the piano at the age of four. After graduating from high school in 2008, Lan was awarded a scholarship to go to England continue her music studies with the renowned Russian pianist Dina Parakhina at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester.
Lan has competed in many international piano competitions, and won a Gold Medal in the Royal Northern College of Music’s seventh Gold Medal Weekend. The panal of Judges at the Gold Medal Weekend included Ivan Hewett, the classical music critic of The Daily Telegraph, who described her as “a very talented pianist. I was greatly impressed by her sensibility and great technique” Lan also has had master classes with a number of renowned pianists, including Charles Rosen, Guillermo Gonzalez, Nelson Goerner, and Michel Beroff.
After graduating from Royal Northern College of Music, Lan became a George Stennett Scholar and was supported by an Else and Leonard Cross Award, to continue her studies at Royal College of Music in London. During these studies at the RCM, Lan won several competitions, include a Gold Medal at the Shanghai International Young Pianist Competition, and a prize at he third Thailand International Piano Competition.
Lan is now at the Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance, supported by a full scholarship, studying with Professor Deniz Gelenbe, Head of the Keyboard Department.
