Kyle Howie of Perth (originally Dundee) is one of Scotland's busiest young pipers. Some of his latest high profile gigs include performing on two separate occasions at Dumfries House for HRH Prince Charles. In 2016 Kyle competed with the Spirit of Scotland Pipe Band (Grade 1) which was comprised of the World's top solo pipers and drummers. The band was placed in the top 6 at the UK, British and European Pipe Band Championships. Kyle is a former member of Tayside Police Pipe Band (Grade 1), The Vale of Atholl (Grade 1), MacKenzie Caledonian (Grade 2). He is also a former member of the National Youth Pipe Band of Scotland with whom he had the opportunity to travel to Galicia in Spain and play at the Festival de Ortigueira in front of 40,000 people. He also performed at the World Equestrian Championships in Switzerland and played on the steps of St Paul's Cathedral for the memorial service of Alexander McQueen. For the past five years he has performed with the world famous Red Hot Chilli Pipers. Kyle has toured all over the UK, Europe, America and China with the band and has performed live in Grand Central Station, New York, and Casino De Monte Carlo to bring in the New Year. Kyle recorded with the Chilli Pipers for their album, Breathe, where you can hear him play Pipes and Low Whistle. Through the Chilli Pipers Kyle had the opportunity to record bagpipes in London for Disney Pixar's hit movie, Brave. Not long after he was recording again with the Chilli Pipers for DreamWorks Animation's, How To Train Your Dragon 2. Kyle has also performed at BT Murrayfield Stadium for the Six Nations Rugby Tournament with the Chilli Pipers and again at the Scotland VS Argentina test match in October 2016. As a young 16 year old piper, Kyle was invited to guest with the Black Watch Pipes and Drums for the Edinburgh Military Tattoo. He later returned aged 17 and 18 to guest with the Royal Scots Dragoon Guards for the Edinburgh Military Tattoo as well as the Basel Tattoo in Switzerland. During his time as a guest with the Royal Scots Dragoon Guards, Kyle lived in Edinburgh Castle for the duration of the Tattoo. As well as playing the Great Highland Bagpipes, Kyle also plays Borderpipes, a selection of Low and High Whistles, Accordion, Piano and Octave Mandolin. He has played with many different folk bands and plays for audiences from 50 to 40,000. Kyle studied HNC Music at Dundee College before being accepted to study Scottish Music at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland (formerly known as the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama) where he left the course at the end of first year to work with the Red Hot Chilli Pipers. He is currently working towards an FLCM in instrumental performance from the London College of Music. As well as performing with many different groups and for wedding services, Kyle teaches bagpipes at a primary school in Edinburgh where he also runs the school's Junior Band, Senior Band and Advanced Pipers group.
