About Kirsten

Beautiful solo cello music for weddings and other special events around the UK. 15+ years of experience, and a friendly and personal service
Cellist
Cardiff
Public liability insurance of £10 million

Hello! I'm Kirsten and I live in South Wales, with a second base in Northamptonshire. I have loved playing music all my life, and it is a joy to share this with others, and particularly at weddings and other special events. I was trained as a classical cellist at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama. Since graduating I have enjoyed playing with orchestras, in chamber groups, with bands, for recordings, at festivals, for musicals, and at weddings. For weddings: I will work with you to make your wedding as special as it can be. I can play music of various genres. You might want all classical music, to give a sophisticated mood, or perhaps you'd prefer a mix of classical, and pop, or some film or musicals tunes. I can also play celidh-style folk tunes, if you want to capture more of a rustic feel. Tell me your thoughts about the music and I'll happily help you make your choices. Solo cello sounds beautiful on it's own, giving a romantic feel. I can also offer a cello and piano for a higher budget. I am happy to make suggestions to help you choose the music you'd like, and I also take requests so whatever that special song or piece of music is, let me know and I can arrange it for you. For recordings: I have worked with various artists and composers and have a lot of experience with recording. I am very confident reading from a score, and I am also highly skilled at harmonising/improvising a cello part by ear if required. I also have skills in arranging and composing.

Kirsten was such a wonderful addition to our wedding. She played beautifully in the church, it truly enriched the service and her song list was extremely varied and exactly what we were hoping for. The organist failed to turn up to the church (!) so instead of being left to sing a Capella, Kirsten jumped straight in and guided us all through the hymns…it was a truly memorable and wonderful moment and we are so grateful for her talent to be able to lead the way! I could not recommend Kirsten enough, having a cellist play at our wedding was a dream and in memory of someone truly special. It was an honour to have Kirsten play for us. Thank you!!

I loved listening to Kirsten's recent solo cello concert online. What a treat! She has a beautiful rich tone and a lovely calm presentation with superb technical skill and an engaging personality. I also enjoyed very much her improvisational abilities - I was in awe of her stunning improvisation piece - and the lovely mixture of unusual and more popular cello repertoire that she introduced me to. I look forward very much to the next performance!

I’ve had the pleasure to work with and employ Kirsten on numerous chamber music projects. These have been participatory in nature, either working in schools or (during coronavirus restrictions) remotely with young people with special educational needs. On all occasions Kirsten has played beautifully and approached each project with care and professionalism, giving real thought to the experience for our participants.
