Customer questions
What do your clients love most about your performances?
As soon as we start playing everyone is impressed by the power of the Kingsfolk sound. Our experience of playing together puts a punch into the music which people respond to.
Our clients also love it when we speed up during a dance. There are some straightforward dances when everyone enjoys trying to keep up with the band.
Which venues have you performed at in the past?
Brighton College
Whitgift School
Selsdon Park Hotel
The London Scottish Building, Horseferry Road.
The Royal Horseguards Hotel, Whitehall.
The Mandarin Oriental Hotel, Knightsbridge
The Institute of Directors, Pall Mall.
Nutfield Priory, Reigate
The Irish Centre, Camden
Ickenham Community Centre
Windlesham Golf Club
Greenwich Yacht Club
Which artists have you been most influenced by?
Celtic Spirit infuse their folk tunes with a power that we try to emulate.
Another band that has influenced us by their pulsing style is the Glasgow based Imar.
What is the most high profile gig you've performed?
One of our best events was a Burns Night Ceilidh at the Institute of Directors on Mall Pall. Not only was it a spectacular venue, but the clients were all young lawyers who brought a huge amount of energy to the party.
Can you perform covers?
We are not really a covers band. Our repertoire includes a lot of familiar tunes but our events focus on ceilidh dances and folk tunes. Very happy to have special requests, but they should really be in the same style as the rest of our pieces.
Do you have different line-up options?
We usually go out as a four piece band plus caller and the line up would be Accordion, violin, bass and drums. For small parties or venues where there is limited space, we sometimes go out as a three piece band plus caller, when the line up would be Accordion, violin and drums.
What if my timings change after I've booked you?
It is inevitable that schedules have to be adjusted at the last minute and we will always try and fit in with whatever the host wants on the night. If there is a good atmosphere at the time we are due to finish we will often play for a bit longer.
Can you provide an iPod/DJ service before and between your sets?
Yes, when we have set up our equipment we usually play appropriate ceilidh music on an iPod. We also have a selection of Irish and Scottish music which we play during the break.
How much time do you need to set up?
Provided we have access to the performance space, we only need about 30 minutes to set everything up. We may then spend between 10 - 15 minutes sound checking the instruments. We try to arrive about an hour and a half before the ceilidh is due to start to make sure we have time to set up properly.
Do you provide a caller?
Yes, we always include a caller when we go to an event. The people who call the dances are all members of Kingsfolk and they are very experienced at engaging with people and making them feel at ease. The will walk-through the dances so that everyone will know what to do.
Can I pick the songs you play from the set list?
We are very happy for clients to choose dance tunes and songs that they would like to hear during the evening. Our repertoire of Scottish songs is always popular at Burns Night events.
Is all of the equipment (e.g. PA) included in your quote?
Yes, we bring all our own PA equipment. We also bring a small selection of stage lights to add atmosphere to the band area.
Can you learn song requests before the event?
Yes, provided we are given enough notice, we will do our best to play special requests. Our line up consists of accordion, violin, bass and drums, so the best tunes will be folky and traditional, but we don't rule anything out.
