The Kindred Spirit Duo are acclaimed singer-guitarist Elaine Samuels and dynamic violinist Martin Ash. The duo's material ranges from gentle background music to high-energy material to get your crowd singing and dancing along, all performed with enthusiasm, polish and personality. Their repertoire covers Irish folk (with ballads, drinking songs and high-speed jigs and reels), country songs and well-known rock, pop and soul cover material from the 1960s right up to the present day, with new material being added all the time (contact for sample set / repertoire lists). They are suitable for any event from weddings and corporate functions to restaurants and bar gigs. Kindred Spirit have a wealth of professional experience and are entirely self-contained – simply give them a space and power sockets and they will be there, ready to go. Elaine Samuels has been featured on television and radio and played at Glastonbury and Guildford Festivals and venues including the Marquee Club and the Barbican, to name a few. “Think the Brits can‘t deliver a terrific acoustic performance ? I‘ll show you something that‘ll make you change your mind. Anyone venturing to England should check out an excellent acoustic artist, Elaine Samuels, working either solo or front and center for her duo Kindred Spirit”. Tom Greenfield, USA Music Correspondent "Elaine has a voice which can be both hauntingly beautiful & deeply emotional, coupled with a powerful stage presence. Her material ranges from folk through to blues...” Rosie Upton, Bath Evening Chronicle Martin Ash is a very versatile, classically trained violinist with a wonderful ability to create melodic, beautiful and exciting improvised solos. He has an affinity for Celtic and country violin playing but is just as much at home playing rock lead on electric violin with effects pedals. "If anyone ever wanted an entertaining fiddle or violin player they should use Martin Ash. An excellent performer that you can’t take your eyes off." Jamie Goddard, the Zoots

I always love watching the Kindred Spirit Duo playing a gig, because their brilliant folk-rock/pop covers never fail to get me and my friends up dancing the night away. They play a great selection of songs and every one seems to be my favourite, Elaine's vocals and guitar playing are superb and Martin is a virtuoso on the electric violin. They both have great personalities and stage presence and are highly recommended by me :-)

Customer questions

Do you have different line-up options?

This profile is for booking the duo of Elaine Samuels (vocals / guitar) and Martin Ash (violin / vocals). It is also possible to book Elaine solo, and the Kindred Spirit Band (five-piece with flute / sax / vocals, bass / vocals and drums; mostly playing original songs).

What if my timings change after I've booked you?

Timings can be adjusted after booking, but please notify us well in advance, especially if the booking is a daytime one or you want us to arrive earlier, in case we have another engagement the same day. Generally it's not a problem though.

Can you provide an iPod/DJ service before and between your sets?

Yes, we regularly do this.

How much time do you need to set up?

We would ask for an hour to set up, though it doesn't always take that long. Do bear in mind that includes a soundcheck, so if you don't want us playing bits of songs to check balance and level shortly before we start our set, allow time for us to do that in advance and then leave a gap or play a playlist until the actual set time!

Can you roam around while you perform?

Not very much due to vocal mikes! However, Martin can roam on a wireless belt pack for his violin; or we can perform with a battery-powered amp for guitar and vocals and acoustic violin, and move around between songs including outdoors.

Can I pick the songs you play from the set list?

Yes, we are always happy to cater for requests of songs we already know.

Is all of the equipment (e.g. PA & lighting) included in your quote?

Yes. We are fully self-contained so long as you have mains power!

Can you learn song requests before the event?

We may well know your request anyway, so please do ask! If we don't know the song and are keen to have it, we would ask for four weeks' notice to learn it, and we may need to add an extra fee for the service.

What do your clients love most about your performances?

Cheerful, friendly and easy to work with manner; charismatic high-energy performances, particularly from Martin; and a well-chosen repertoire of songs people know and that fit the occasion.
