Rising from the ashes of Jonny Gee's hit Celtic fusion band Penradin, this acoustic kilted quintet (with or without the addition of our Ceilidh "Caller") plays popular, foot-tapping, danceable melodies & brings a grand vibe to any party...folk fiddle, acoustic guitar, Scottish squeezebox (our accordionist sings the songs), double bass & a wee drum to keep the beat! We can also bring our Caller (making this a 6-piece booking). We provide our own PA system & are happy to play at a background acoustic level, or really rock it out to get the party bouncing. Most people seem to like jigs & reels & the odd ballad - both traditional melodies like Robbie Burns "Oh! My Love os Like a Red, Red Rose" and more rock-ballad hits too, like the "Caledonia" video on our Playlist. We often play gigs just to bring a great vibe to a party, where people can (and DO!) get up & dance as & when they can't keep their feet still...or simply enjoy the music, seated quietly with a friend with a couple of good whiskies to hand. Or - for a dedicated night of dancing - our Caller will lead beginners & more experienced reelers through The Gay Gordons, a Dashing White Sergeant, the Flyng Scotsman, an Eightsome Reel and a bit of Strip The Willow. Led by Scottish-Irish double bassist Jonny Gee, we are based in London but very happy to jump into our 6-seat bandwagon and drive into the sunset... Jonny Gee has been providing music for events since 1997 and - to give an idea of the quality to expect -his other other band (The Jazzberries) have played for Elton John's White Tie & Tiara Ball, at the House of Lords and were voted "Best Live Entertainment in the UK" in the 2014 Wedding Industry Awards. His Kilts, Scotch & Haggis band will bring the same positive energy & professionalism to your event. Please arrange an Encore "Callback" phone call so you can tell Jonny exactly what it is you want for your event, so things can be tailored to your needs - large or small.

Customer questions

Do you have different line-up options?

We play as a quintet (5 musicians) and add a "Caller" (our 6th performer) to guide the dancers at Ceildhs -- but not at our other gigs, when you are free to dance however you wish! The quintet is: Folk fiddle Acoustic guitar Scottish Squeezbox (accordion+vocals) Double bass A wee drum to keep the beat!

What if my timings change after I've booked you?

Since 1997 our band-leader Jonny Gee has been providing music for events like Elton John's White Tie & Tiara Ball, the House of Lords, and countless weddings, Ceilidhs & birthdays...we know we need to be flexible to your needs! [We simply need to know the "get-in" time & the latest cut-off point, so we can be sure to pack up in time & get home safely.]

Can you provide an iPod/DJ service before and between your sets?

We can book our favourite DJ (or his son, who is nearly 30) which will save you money as they can go through our PA system. Cost depends on specific requirements, but will be less than booking a DJ independently. We can also simply plug in an iPod (yours or ours) with a playlist running.

How much time do you need to set up?

We like to arrive 90 minutes to 2 hours ahead of the start time: typically we need 1 hour to set up, sound-check & tidy our cases away. [And we like to have a whole hour in hand: 1/2 an hour break before playing + 1/2 an hour spare in case of delays getting into the building or on the roads.]

Can you roam around while you perform?

Yes, acoustically (our drummer would bring just his little side-drum on a marching-band sling).

Can I pick the songs you play from the set list?

Oops...I've not yet uploaded our complete list, but if there's a particular song you want, we probably know it. If not, then we will probably want to learn it!

Is all of the equipment (e.g. PA & lighting) included in your quote?

PA is included for 40-120 guests + some floor lights when necessary. We can supplement our PA by making it twice as big (doesn't cost much more) and we can hire a full stage-lighting system. We can also hire in a small stage if you like (it is a good idea if space/budget allow) and a dancefloor too, but for Ceilidh's this generally isn't needed.

Can you learn song requests before the event?

Yes, of course! If there's a song we don't yet know which fits into our repertoire, then we'd learn it (no charge). [NB If it's likely only special for you, then we may need to charge a bit for the extra time involved -- best to chat with us on the phone!]
