Our repertoire is vast and and includes such artists as Michael Jackson, Jamiroqui, Coldplay, Reef, The Beatles, Jet, Stevie Wonder and many more. If you want something different, energetic and better than your average book Kid At The Back now and we will bring the festival experience to you. Kid At The Back formed in early 2003 in Hertfordshire as an original band. After meeting in 2002, Zac (vocals, guitar) and Matt (drums) spent six months writing and recording music before working with various Bass players to produce the distinctive Kid At The Back sound. 3 years was then spent gigging around the country where they shared the stage with such acts as Enter Shikari, The Subways and Fun Loving Criminals. Kid At The Back music was also heard worldwide with repeated airtime on British Forces Radio, Pirate FM and Absolute Radio and also provided the soundtrack for surfers and skaters on Channel Four’s Extreme Sports Show. Further success came after winning the UK Emergenza music festival in 2006 which in turn saw them whisked to perform at Germany’s Glastonbury equivalent, The Taubertal Festival. This led to further tours of the UK and the band recording debut single ‘Slide Away‘ in 2008. This success was marred in 2009 when the band were forced to split due to unforeseen circumstances but in 2011 The band reformed with the help of new Bass Player, Jim Harrison. Now in their thirties (their prime!!) the band have decided to take a different direction and are reaching a larger audience by playing a predominately Covers based set. This has meant bookings in many venues that would not have booked the band previously. This new approach has been a roaring success. The band now pride themselves as being one of the greatest covers acts in the UK whilst continuing to promote their original music as KATB

Customer questions

What do your clients love most about your performances?

Our clients love our full and energetic sound and are always amazed that we create such a big sound with just three musicians. We have so many positive comments on the quality of our performances and people often tell us that they would only expect to see a band of this standard at a big festival which is a lovely compliment.

Which venues have you performed at in the past?

Famous venues include the London Astoria, Hackney Empire, W14 Club, 100 Club Taubertal Festiva in Germany, Nozstock Festival etc but we have also played at countless venues of all shapes and sizes across the UK and Europe for weddings, corporate events, parties and festivals.

Which artists have you been most influenced by?

The Beatles, Arctic Monkeys, Reef, Queen, Oasis, RHCP, Stevie Wonder, Led Zeppelin, Kaiser Chiefs, The Police, Stereophonics amongst many others

What is the most high profile gig you've performed?

The Taubertal Festival, Rotterdam, Germany. This is a festival that attracts over 20,000 audience members - was a HUGE gig!

Will the singer be the same as who I see in the videos?

Yes, The vocal is the main ingredient and creates the signature sound of an act so Zac will always perform lead vocals with the band. We do on occasion have to use replacement musicians for bass or drums to cover holidays but we do have pre-auditioned 'dep' musicians who slot into the band seamlessly so you wont notice any difference in quality.

Do you have different line-up options?

Our line up is kept as a three piece as we find this the most versatile and enables us to play all venues from the smallest pubs to festival stages with a guarantee you will get the same sound. However, our versatility does mean we can offer an acoustic option for the increasingly popular 'Mumford & Sons' folk style in addition to our full electric sound.

What if my timings change after I've booked you?

A standard evening booking with us is for 120 minutes of live music anytime between 7pm and midnight with a 6pm arrival time for setup so we are very flexible to accommodate any changes in your timings within these parameters. If your timings change outside of these parameters then get in contact, we may be able to help but will depend on other commitments.

Can you provide an iPod/DJ service before and between your sets?

Yes, this is all part of the service. We will create a bespoke DJ playlist for you that will be played when the band are off stage. Just let us know your favourite tunes 7 days in advance and we will have them queued and ready to play on the night :)

How much time do you need to set up?

Our standard equipment setup takes approximately 60 minutes however if your venue has a sound limiter we may need to use specialist equipment such as an electric drum kit and this requires around 90 minutes to setup and sound check. Please ask your venue for sound limiter information prior to booking and we will give you more details on this option.

Can I pick the songs you play from the set list?

You are more than welcome to pick songs from the set list and we encourage it to some degree as it helps us get a feel for your tastes however after years of experience we do find it is always best to just let me know the kind of music that you and your guests like and let us build a set to suit, as this will give the performance a more natural feel.

Is all of the equipment (e.g. PA & lighting) included in your quote?

Yes, all audio equipment and basic lights for the dance floor is included in every quote.

Can you learn song requests before the event?

Yes, although we can’t learn a complete new set as we wouldn’t have time to do that for every client but we will always learn a first dance and happy to do a few extras. Always feel free to ask as we may have played songs recently that are not listed.

Kid at the back (Zac Whitaker) is an excellent performer. He was great at communicating before hand and very flexible with timings, which was much appreciated. He played a good variety of songs and really got the party going. There was a mixture of age groups but everybody loved Kid at The Back! Zac had even learnt some songs which I had requested - which made the night extra special! He was extremely professional and I would recommend him highly to all. Thank you Kid at The Back! Anna

Superb! Thoroughly recommend! Great communication with Zac in the weeks/days to the gig, the bandwere happy to incorporate our song choices into their x2 sets and also learn a couple of our favourites! And entered into the spirit of the event with Halloween costumes! The whole venue was rocking! Mosh pits, crowd surfing the lot! I would not hesitate to book these boys in a second if you want your guests to have the best party ever!

I just want to say thank you so much for coming out to Verbier, Switzerland to play at our wedding. You were absolutely awesome and played a fantastic selection of songs - the dance floor was packed for the whole evening. All of our guests commented on what a great band and how musically talented you were. It really made the evening. I'd also like to say thank you for learning Rock and Roll. As someone who plays music, I appreciate it might not have been the easiest song to pick up (especially if you have other gigs and requests going on at the same time). I was absolutely delighted when that signature drum beat started, and I'd highly recommend adding it to your permanent set list! You will definitely be our first port of call for any other occasion when we need a live band
