Kid at the Back started out as a Three piece Original band from Hertfordshire, gigging around the country and sharing stages with such acts as Enter Shikari, The Subways and Fun Loving Criminals. Our music was heard worldwide with repeated airtime on British Forces Radio, Pirate FM and Absolute Radio and also provided the soundtrack for surfers and skaters on Channel Four’s Extreme Sports Show. Further success came after winning the UK Emergenza music festival in 2006 which in turn saw them whisked to perform at Germany’s Glastonbury equivalent, The Taubertal Festival. This led to further tours of the UK and the band recording debut single ‘Slide Away‘ in 2008. Now having well over 10 years experience performing covers in the function circuit and boasting a huge repertoire of over 200 songs, we can offer bespoke sets for a wide range of genres for any venue or event. We bring decades of experience, professionalism and energy that guarantees your event will live long in the memory. We can now "taylor the line-up with keys & brass. If you require a band for your venue, wedding, party, in fact any event you can think of, Kid At the Back have it covered. The energy and sheer musicianship of KATB adds a unique feel and engages any audience so let us get up on stage so you can get down on the floor! If you want something different, energetic and better than your average book Kid At The Back now and we will bring the festival experience to you....

Customer questions

What do your clients love most about your performances?

Our clients love our full and energetic sound and are always amazed that we create such a big sound with just three musicians. We have so many positive comments on the quality of our performances and people often tell us that they would only expect to see a band of this standard at a big festival which is a lovely compliment.

Which venues have you performed at in the past?

Famous venues include the London Astoria, Hackney Empire, W14 Club, 100 Club Taubertal Festiva in Germany, Nozstock Festival etc but we have also played at countless venues of all shapes and sizes across the UK and Europe for weddings, corporate events, parties and festivals.

Which artists have you been most influenced by?

The Beatles, Arctic Monkeys, Reef, Queen, Oasis, RHCP, Stevie Wonder, Led Zeppelin, Kaiser Chiefs, The Police, Stereophonics amongst many others

What is the most high profile gig you've performed?

The Taubertal Festival, Rotterdam, Germany. This is a festival that attracts over 20,000 audience members - was a HUGE gig!

Will the singer be the same as who I see in the videos?

We strive to ensure that the line-up you see is what you get for your event. We do on occasion have to use replacement to cover holidays, illness etc but we do have pre-auditioned 'dep' musicians who slot into the band seamlessly so you wont notice any difference in quality.

Do you have different line-up options?

Our default line up is four piece. As multi-instrumentalists we are able to cater for a wide range of styles involving keys and brass as well as guitar driven rock classics. We are also able to condense down to 2 or 3 piece for more intimate settings for a more acoustic vibe.

What if my timings change after I've booked you?

A standard evening booking with us is for 120 minutes of live music anytime between 7pm and midnight with a 6pm arrival time for setup so we are very flexible to accommodate any changes in your timings within these parameters. If your timings change outside of these parameters then get in contact, we may be able to help but will depend on other commitments.

Can you provide an iPod/DJ service before and between your sets?

Yes, this is all part of the service. We will create a bespoke DJ playlist for you that will be played when the band are off stage. Just let us know your favourite tunes 7 days in advance and we will have them queued and ready to play on the night :)

How much time do you need to set up?

Our standard equipment setup takes between 60-90 minutes however if your venue has a sound limiter we may need to use specialist equipment such as an electric drum kit and this may take longer to setup and sound check. Please ask your venue for sound limiter information prior to booking and we will give you more details on this option.

Can I pick the songs you play from the set list?

You are more than welcome to pick songs from the set list and we encourage it to some degree as it helps us get a feel for your tastes however after years of experience we do find it is always best to just let me know the kind of music that you and your guests like and let us build a set to suit, as this will give the performance a more natural feel.

Is all of the equipment (e.g. PA & lighting) included in your quote?

Yes, all audio equipment and basic lights for the dance floor is included in every quote.

Can you learn song requests before the event?

Yes, although we can’t learn a complete new set as we wouldn’t have time to do that for every client but we will always learn a first dance and happy to do a few extras. Always feel free to ask as we may have played songs recently that are not listed.

I had the most amazing time last Saturday and this was due to the amazing Kids at the Back. They were simply amazing from start to finish. Jim and his fellow band members kept the whole party entertained! So many of my friends and family complimented around their amazing performances, engagement with the crowd and amazing mixture of songs. They catered for all the crowd! I cannot thank them enough … 100% will recommend them. Just superb! One of the best live bands we have ever experienced. So talented in every shape and form. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts. Love Ruth and John xx

I just want to say thank you so much for coming out to Verbier, Switzerland to play at our wedding. You were absolutely awesome and played a fantastic selection of songs - the dance floor was packed for the whole evening. All of our guests commented on what a great band and how musically talented you were. It really made the evening. I'd also like to say thank you for learning Rock and Roll. As someone who plays music, I appreciate it might not have been the easiest song to pick up (especially if you have other gigs and requests going on at the same time). I was absolutely delighted when that signature drum beat started, and I'd highly recommend adding it to your permanent set list! You will definitely be our first port of call for any other occasion when we need a live band
