Khemi Shabazz

Khemi Shabazz is a Leeds-based oboe player whose diverse musical interests have enabled her to perform at a number of fantastic venues in the capital and beyond including the Southbank Centre, Royal Albert Hall and the Tate Modern. Khemi holds a first class degree in performance from Trinity Laban. During her studies she won the Evelyn Rothwell Oboe Prize as well as being a finalist in the Harold Clarke Woodwind Competition in her 3rd year. Khemi has performed with a number of orchestra’s most notably Chi Chi Nwanoku’s Chineke! Foundation Orchestra which has been broadcast live on BBC Radio 3 and in the Proms. In addition to this Khemi has also performed in an orchestral project for new music label NonClassical and regularly performs with Street Orchestra Live bringing orchestral music into places that wouldn't normally have access. Outside of classical music, Khemi enjoys improvising and frequently collaborates with spoken word artists and musicians from other disciplines. In the past she has performed in a chamber ensemble with producer Wilma Archer (formally known as Slime) to perform live renditions of songs from his critically acclaimed album Company. Most recently she has become a member of Ancient Infinity Orchestra - an experimental jazz/improvised music ensemble who have recently released an album called Solar Seasons, now available on Bandcamp and Spotify.
