Customer questions
What do your clients love most about your performances?
Apart from the music and my dress, I believe it is the 'Pomp and Ceremony' I bring to any occasion. My Military, Piping and Civic experiences have prepared me in etiquette and formal protocol. Dependent on the event, I have found that involving the audience goes down especially well. I have countless pictures of newlywed Brides trying to play my Bagpipes!
Which venues have you performed at in the past?
Various Military Tattoos around the World
Numerous Local arenas
The Mall (Patrons Lunch for Her Majesty The Queen)
Kensington Palace
Canadian Embassy London
Canadian Ambassadors Residence
Goldsmiths Hall
Merchant Taylors Hall
Drapers Hall
The Cenotaph, Whitehall (Annually)
Which artists have you been most influenced by?
This is a difficult one to answer, as from a Piping perspective, there are many Pipers who offer different skills and advice that can influence others. Pipers also learn from one another.
For raw talent, however I would say "The Red hot Chilli Pipers" who are not only excellent Pipers & Drummers they are also world class champions in their music.
What is the most high profile gig you've performed?
Played for Her Majesty The Queen At the Canadian High Comm. Trafalgar Square. Played again for Her Majesty as my Band lead the Parade at her Birthday celebrations. A clip of this was shown on Her Majesty's Christmas message 2016.
Played for Prince Laurent of Belgium.
War Widows Parade every year at the Cenotaph London
Played in Bollywood film "Housefull 4".
What if my timings change after I've booked you?
Thats really not a problem as sometimes things will be beyond your control. I always allow a certain amount of time either side of your booking to allow for the unexpected, but it would always be helpful for you to contact me straight away, especially if I am coming from a distance.
Can you provide an iPod/DJ service before and between your sets?
Short answer - No. This is not something I am able to do. This is actually a blessing as my music tastes are so diverse!
However should you wish, I can provide other Pipers/Drummers to give your event some extra "WOW" for more information please ask.
How much time do you need to set up?
This is dependent on the event. For example, for aWedding I will arrive fully dressed and tuned up wherever possible.
Likewise for a funeral I will arrive fully dressed and tuned up. If the event is a corporate or surprise event or other circumstances prevent me to turn up fully dressed, then I would need at least half an hour to get dressed and tuned up.
Can I pick the pieces you play from the set list?
Yes. The sound of the bagpipes are emotive and the tunes are often selected for their significance. I am always pleased to discuss tune choices and options with you, and to also advise on the historical relevance of tunes, so that you know what is being played and what it means. (You can then show off to friends with your new-found knowledge!!)
Do you bring all the equipment you need to perform?
Yes. I come completely self-sufficient, complete with pop-up changing room if needed. The most I am likely to request from you is drinking water. Pipers shrivel up like old prunes when dehydrated and are not a pretty sight!
Can you learn specific pieces before the event?
The answer is both yes and no. Presuming that I dont already know it, I can learn any tune that has been written for the bagpipes (with a few days notice). HOWEVER, the bagpipes have a range of 9 notes (one octave) so more complex tunes such as modern pop, classical music etc. cannot be transposed/arranged for the pipes. You can always ask and we can try.
