Born and raised in Belgium, Kate is a British mezzo-soprano who specialises in Oratorio, French Song, Lieder, and has a strong background in choral repertoire. She is currently studying for a Master of Arts in Vocal Performance at the Royal Academy of Music under the tutelage of Catherine Wyn-Rogers. Kate was recently selected for a masterclass with Allan Clayton, and came second (very highly commended) in the Michael Head English Song Prize at the Academy. Kate regularly sings in choirs across the UK, and holds the Alto choral scholarship at St Mary in the Bolton’s Church, South Kensington where she regularly sings both solo and ensemble repertoire.
Concert performances include alto soloist in Handel’s Messiah (St Mary in the Boltons Church Choir), alto soloist with Cambridge University Pops Orchestra, and again with Schola Cantorum – Oxford’s premier chamber choir. Kate has organised and performed her own recital series, entitled “Dangerous Women”, in partnership with Jesus College Chapel, Oxford, and is looking forward to returning to Oxford with new recitals this spring. She is also a regular performer at the International Gilbert and Sullivan Festival where she has previously won the award for best duet, been nominated for Best Supporting Actress, and has performed lunchtime recitals. Opera roles include Smeton (Donizetti – Anna Bolena), Fillipyevna (Tchaikovsky – Eugene Onegin), Euridice (Monteverdi – Orfeo), Lady Angela (Gilbert and Sullivan – Patience) for Opera Anywhere, Fairy Queen (Gilbert and Sullivan – Iolanthe) for Forbear! Theatre, and chorus of La Traviata (Verdi) for Oxford Alternative Orchestra (2018), and chorus for Royal Academy Opera’s 2018 production of Semele (Handel), under the baton of Lawrence Cummings. Kate has also played roles in musical theatre productions, such as Tzeitel (Bock – Fiddler on the Roof), Mission Doll (Loesser – Guys and Dolls), and chorus in The Phantom of the Opera in Concert (Lloyd-Webber).
As well as a seasoned stage performer, Kate also has a wealth of choral experience. She was an alto choir member of Queens’ College Chapel Choir, Cambridge, and Peterhouse College Choir, Cambridge, with whom she recorded a CD and went on tour. She has also performed with MagSoc, The Lucy Cavendish Singers (Cambridge), Schola Cantorum (Oxford), the Rodolfus Choir and the Philharmonia Chorus, with concerts in notable venues including Westminster Abbey, the Royal Festival Hall, and King’s College Chapel, Cambridge.
Kate holds a degree in Education with English Literature from St John’s College, Cambridge (2015), and has an ABRSM Diploma in singing. In her spare time, Kate enjoys reading, practising her French and Spanish, running, and tutoring English language and literature online.
