Karim Younis

Hi, I'm Karim, a composer and pianist based in London. I play my own music. It's neoclassical and cinematic, in the spirit of Einaudi. Romantic, soothing, sometimes quietly passionate. I trained classically from the age of eight. Later I completed a Master's in Composition for Screen at the Royal College of Music. Today I write music for films and documentaries, and I work as music editor on the BBC drama Call the Midwife. So when I perform, you're not getting covers from a songbook. You're hearing original pieces and live improvisation from someone who writes music for a living. What I'm best at is atmosphere. I have a soft touch and I listen to the room. At a dinner or a private event, my music creates a calm, beautiful ambience. People relax into it. It never fights the conversation. I'm not the pianist who plays loud over your guests. I make the evening feel effortless, like the music was always part of the space. One of my favourite recent recordings, We Are Lucky, was made on the Steinway Model D at Master Chord Studio in London, one of the finest pianos in Europe. The studio's owner praised my touch on it, which meant a lot. If you want the music to take centre stage instead, I also perform concert sets of my own compositions and improvisations. I've presented my music this way internationally, including a recital and public masterclass in Italy. An intimate evening of new music rather than background piano. I perform across London and the South East, at venues with a piano. I'm reliable and easy to work with.
