Kara Taylor

Hailing from the Scottish Highlands, Kara Taylor’s musical journey began learning the cello at school. She excelled in the ABRSM grades, and soon gained a scholarship to the North East of Scotland Music School under the mentorship of Royal College of Music tutor, James Halsey. During these years, Kara performed globally in leading concert halls with the National Youth Orchestra of Scotland, including at the Cologne Cathedral and the Usher Hall. She then proceeded her musical studies at the Aberdeen City Music School, where alongside the cello, she studied piano. Kara rapidly excelled in piano playing and obtained a Grade 8 Distinction after only one year lessons. She took a gap year to decide which instrument to pursue, whilst living alongside and learning with her tutor, James Halsey, who's cello is currently on loan to Kara. With scholarships to the UK’s leading conservatoires, Kara studied at the Royal Northern of College in Manchester under the tutelage of Nicholas Jones, Petr Prause and Nicholas Trygstad. Here she performed regularly with the RNCM Symphony Orchestra, her string quartet and piano trio. Session work alongside her college studies lead her to perform in prestigious venues such as the Royal Albert Hall, and Bridgewater Hall. In her final two years of conservatoire training, a prolonged playing injury forced Kara to change direction with her performing career, where she adapted and embraced a new path as a music educator. Taking on the role as music educator at Brilliant Stars International School in Bratislava, Slovakia, she continues to inspire the next generation of musicians with her passion and expertise.
