London based bassoonist, Julia Flint, currently studies at the Royal College of Music under the Ian Evans Lombe Scholarship with Martin Gatt and Sarah Burnett. There she has played in multiple ensembles including the Symphony and Philharmonic orchestras and the Wind Ensemble. She previously attended the junior department there where she was awarded the May Edwards Memorial Prize, the Sally Wainwright Woodwind Prize and the Ruby White Prize. Julia was a member of the National Youth Orchestra for 3 years. She was principal bassoon in her final year, and held a Leverhulme Arts and Wolfson Scholarship. At NYO she worked with many well-respected conductors including Sir Mark Elder and Thomas Ades and played at the BBC Proms several times. Julia was also principal bassoon of the Ealing Youth Orchestra, with whom she played for seven years and toured to Europe each summer. Julia has appeared with orchestras on ClassicFM, BBC Radio 2 and Radio 3, where she has also been interviewed and played with her wind quintet live on InTune. In the past Julia has also been a member of the National Youth Wind Orchestra, National School Symphony Orchestra, London Schools Symphony Orchestra and the Young Orchestra of London, which was conducted by Sir Simon Rattle. Julia is currently principal bassoon in a number of new orchestras, including the Dorian Chamber Orchestra and the Cavatina Orchestra, which both play regularly in central London venues. As a soloist Julia has played movements from the Mozart, Weber and Vivaldi A minor bassoon concertos with various orchestras. Julia currently holds the Ealing Music and Film Festival Senior scholarship and plays on a Heckel 7000 series.
