Joshua Newman is in his final year as an academical clerk (Bass) at Magdalen College, Oxford, where he is also reading for a BA in Philosophy and French. Before coming up to Oxford he studied violin, viola, and voice at Chetham’s School of Music. He was previously a member of the Junior Department at Guildhall School of Music and Drama, going weekly to London for lessons, classes, and ensemble tuition, and was awarded an undergraduate place at the Royal College of Music before deciding to come to Oxford.
Joshua has performed in venues including The Bridgewater Hall, Royal Festival Hall, Cadogan Hall, and St. John’s, Smith Square under such conductors as Paul McCreesh, David Hill, and Paul Mann.
Last year he spent a year in Chartres, France teaching as a language assistant and studying singing at the regional conservatoire with Aurélia Legay. He currently studies with Giles Underwood and hopes to build a career as a professional singer.
