Joshua Monks

Hello! My name is Joshua Monks and I am a UK based guitar teacher/guitarist. I have always had a passion for guitar and it never stops! I would consider myself a hardworking musician that loves to learn. Hence why I studied at college and University doing what I love most...Music! I discovered at university that I had perfect pitch as I was able to learn songs and work out parts at a very fast rate compared to other students...so It's fair to say that I am a fast learner! I love all aspects of guitar playing, from Jazz Fusion, Blues, Gyspy Jazz, Funk, Rock, Metal and many others. I teach guitar for a living as I am very eager to share my knowledge onto others and I as mentioned before, I love the aspect of learning, as it only develops yourself as a musician more. Regarding gigging experience, I have been in an acoustic Duo for over 5 years. It ranges from country, pop, folk and easy listening music. We have performed at wedding ceremonies around kent, Christmas markets, Birthday parties, BBQ's at pubs, music festivals, restaurants, Wine bars and other musical events. My gigging partner and I met in a local band that covered a range of styles and have had plenty of experience from a young age. I would also consider myself patient and calm when in a stressful environment, so I am level headed whenever there may be a problem at a certain venue. I am punctual and organised so I always turn up before a soundcheck. My main instrument is the Electric guitar and Acoustic guitar is second. Although, I do play both on a regular basis. Some times I have played bass when required so that Is always an option for me to do at gigs. With my stage presence, I love interacting with the musicians on the stage and would not consider myself timid on stage. I do own a car and have good equipment. I even own a guitar modeller that can switch tunings instantly mid-song so I am versatile in regards to setlists. I am never afraid to take honest criticism from fellow colleagues and I am out-going to others. My image is also presentable, so if there were to be certain criteria of appearance for a certain gig, I would be professional. Regarding my musicianship, I am always happy to adapt to whatever role is needed. Whether I am playing subtle rhythm guitar to shredding a guitar solo! I am also very open-minded regarding repertoire, so if there is something I have not done before/played before, I am up for a challenge. I can adapt to any situation that comes my way such as a new key change last minute, or a new section that has been added just before the show starts. When it comes to rehearsals I am incredibly reliable, as I always turn up on time and I learn any song before the session does actually take place.
