Joshua Baxter is an up and coming young Tenor who is currently studying at the Royal Academy of Music in London. He has been singing since he was 7 years old and has extensive training as both a soloist and a Choral Singer. Joshua has performed in a variety of activities in his short career to date ranging from singing in choirs to performing in Operas. Joshua is a former Chorister at the Chapel Royal Hampton Court and was a Music Scholar at St John's School, Leatherhead. He then moved to the Unversity of Aberdeen where he threw himself into all the musical activties he could find including the Chapel Choir and the Opera Society to name but a few. All this on top of a Religious Studies degree! Chorally, Joshua has performed with a wide variety of choirs as both a member and a soloist. These include choirs such as the Rodolfus Choir, led by Ralph Alwood; The National Youth Choir of Scotland, led by Christopher Bell; The University of Aberdeen Chamber Choir, led by Paul Mealor and King's College Chapel Choir Aberdeen, led by David Smith. Josh recently joined The Cantus Ensemble, led by Dominic Brennan. As a soloist, Joshua's main interests lie in both Opera and solo concert work. Whilst at University he played an active part in both the Opera and Gilbert and Sullivan Soceties. He has played lead roles for both societies including Don Jose in Carmen, Tamino in the Magic Flute, Lensky in Eugene Onegin and Frederic in the Pirates of Penzance. On the concert platform, Joshua has performed a variety of works. Examples include being the Tenor Soloist in Howard Goodall's Eternal Light and playing the Evangelist in Handel's Brockes Passion. He has also performed works by Paul Mealor at high profile events in Aberdeen including the opening of the Jacobite Exhbition in the Sir Duncan Rice Library. Joshua has also been a finalist in competitions including the Courtney Kenny Award, the Ogston Music Prize (twice) and in 2014 was named the recipiant of the Ogston-Carlaw Prize.
