I believe my employment as a dual professional, that is I am both a qualified educator and a professional musician, holds me in good stead when fulfilling the role of music educator. I have held roles as a qualified music teacher, peripatetic instrumental teacher and music hub manager and throughout my teaching career in both primary and secondary schools significant efforts have been made to grow the musical life of the school while delivering fun, engaging and memorable lessons as part of the curriculum. I continue to teach students who are preparing for GCSE, A level and IB as well as solo instrument and theory grade examinations. I am able to teach drums and percussion to diploma level, proficient with grades I-VIII ABRSM, Rock School, Trinity Rock & Pop and prepare students for licentiate examination LRSM, LRAM, LLCM. Ultimately teaching is a caring profession and I believe myself to be confident, empathetic and highly motivated when expected to identify and comprehend the problems and challenges one expects to encounter in my given role and I strive to seek effective and lasting solutions that are amicable for everyone. I continue to champion the safe use of technology and actively find ways to improve the efficacy of teaching, learning, assessment and recording of evidence while maintaining consistency in line with school policies. My experience as an active professional musician means I thrive most when working as part of a team and constantly look for opportunities to engage with colleagues. In the spirit of pedagogic reciprocity, I hope to share and understand the perspective of each role, their associated responsibilities and their approaches to create a sharing and mutually supportive participant-centric learning environment. Furthermore, I continue to celebrate the benefits one receives from teaching and learning with fellow musicians and constantly look for opportunities to promote teaching roles and peripatetic positions to many of the quality musicians that I have the pleasure and privilege of working with professionally.
