I am a professional euphonium player, running a Bavarian band, tuba quartet, fanfare ensemble. I am a soloist, orchestral and band musician.

John graduated with an Honours Degree and two professional performance Diplomas from the Royal Northern College Of Music – the first Euphonium player to do so. As one of the leading exponents of the Euphonium, John is dedicated to expanding the boundaries of the instrument. He has helped to refine the Euphonium and has had many new works written by leading British and overseas composers including Michael Finnissy and John Stevens. John has performed throughout Britain, Japan, America and Europe as well as playing with most of the country’s leading Brass Bands. He is a founding member of Tubalaté and Silk and Steel (Euphonium, flute and Piano trio). John is a tenor tuba and bass trumpet specialist and has played with many orchestras, including the Hallé and the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra on its tour of the Czech Republic. John has also recorded a CD of Percy Grainger works with the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra. He is the conductor of both Denbighshire County and Training Bands. John has an extensive private teaching studio and also works as a brass tutor in schools. He is a founding member and Director of the Denbighshire Music Co-operative, which provides instrumental tuition to over 3000 youngsters in Denbighshire, North Wales. John is honoured and proud to be an Adams Performing Artist.

John aka Helmut and all the other members of the Oompah Stompers were absolutely fantastic. Hired them for a formal dinner function, but they managed to get everyone up on the tables singing and dancing. Great performers. On top of this, John was excellent to deal with throughout. He adapted to any specific requests or issues I had, and came up with good ideas that improved the evening. First class. Jamie

Wow, where to start. I contacted John and the gang a while back as we had a crazy idea that a brass band flash mob in a church while we signed the marriage certificate would be unique. We weren’t sure how to approach the idea but after talking to John on the phone and then at the venue we had a plan. It was all cleared with our vicar who was really up for the idea. On the day the troop turned up early to get into positions and it all went flawlessly, with no guests knowing what was going on it went down a treat and we are still talking about it now. I know one thing for sure, and that is the oompah stompers will be playing in Shildon again but hopefully they can stick around for some of the Shildon welcome and a few beers.
