About John

Guitarist
Gourock

Born in Greenock, Scotland, 12/12/1992 John Patton took up the guitar at age 7 and was self taught til late in high school when he joined Strathclyde Youth Jazz Orchestra and began to have an interest in Jazz. He has now performed with some of the countries most exciting acts such as Fat-Suit and Tommy Smith as well as having performed throughout Europe and also at the prestigious Montreux Jazz Festival. He has also performed previously with Jazz veterans such as Laurence Cottle, Randy Brecker (the Brecker Bros) and Mike Stern (guitar legend). Patton realised his talents at an early age and consequently won Inverclyde’s best under 18’s guitarist for four years in a row as well as having bagged the Young Musician of the Year award for Inverclyde in 2007. John has performed his own material on several occasions live on BBC Radio and is in the midst of writing a Suite of music which in largely enveloped in the feel of normal working class life in the West of Scotland. This is hoped to have some of the best writers and lyricists in the country involved. John’s compositional talents are not limited to strictly jazz either as he has previously written music for the National Theatre of Scotland and has written a lot of funk and soul material. His Debut Album “Green 14″ was recorded in April 2015 and released in June. This was the same year he was a finalist in the prestigious Young Scottish Jazz Musician of the Year. John has recently returned to Scotland after living in Malaysia for half a year and is looking forward to getting back into the music scene in Scotland.
