John Close

John is a Jazz Guitarist based in Cardiff currently studying a Masters Degree in Jazz Guitar at The Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama under the tutelage of Jez Franks and Ant Law. John is an active part of the Jazz scene in Cardiff and is regularly performing at venues across the city Whilst studying an undergraduate degree in Music and English Literature at The University of Sheffield John received lessons with Leeds College of Music tutor Jamie Taylor. During his time at university John also studied Indian Classical Music with John Ball, learning the Tabla and playing guitar in the Sheffield Indian music Ensemble, a group which translated Indian Classical music onto western instruments. He also played in the Sheffield University Big Band and had his own standards quartet which did a variety of gigs across northern England. John is a Help Musicians UK Postgraduate Scholarship Award holder and is grateful for his support from The Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama.
