John Chen studies medicine at Jesus College, Cambridge. He began to play the piano when he was four years old, and was awarded an LTCL Diploma in Recital in Solo Piano with Distinction at the age of fifteen. John has performed at major concert halls such as the Auckland Town Hall and Sydney Opera House, and has been broadcast on national radio in New Zealand, where he lived before coming to England. At Cambridge, John has performed extensively as a concerto pianist. As an award winner at the Cambridge University Musical Society concerto competition, he has performed with the university’s flagship symphony orchestra, the Cambridge University Musical Society Symphony Orchestra, as well as with the University of Cambridge Philharmonia, the Cambridge Graduate Orchestra, and the Cambridge University Chinese Orchestra. As the winner of a university instrumental award for piano, John has also performed as a soloist and chamber musician in Cambridge and London.
