John can currently be seen performing with some of the countries top big bands such as The Syd Lawrence Orchestra, The London Jazz Orchestra, Patchwork Jazz Orchestra and NYJO, where he performed in the Barbican alongside musicians from the Lincoln Center such as Wynton Marsalis, Elliot Mason and Vincent Gardner. He has Recently just finished a project performing Berlioz Symphonie Fantastique with the London Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Sir Simon Rattle. John has been a member of the well-known New Orleans band, The Brass Funkeys for two years. With highlights including performances on Jazz FM, the main stage at Camp Bestival, along with Glastonbury, London Jazz Festival, Bestival, Boomtown, Wilderness and Secret Garden Party to name just a few. John also regularly performs and records with many London-based pop and rock bands such as; Kyros, Grace Moon and the Jaguar and The Kubricks. His career started when John was awarded a scholarship to attend Birmingham Junior conservatoire. He then went on to gain places in all of his auditions at RCM, Birmingham Conservatoire and RNCM, deciding to further his studies with a scholarship at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. Whilst studying here he gained experience in orchestral playing, operatic repertoire, chamber music, big band playing and small band jazz. Highlights include; symphony orchestra, playing on British Trombone Society recordings, receiving many masterclasses from trombonists such as Stefan Schultz, the contemporary music ensemble Ubu, and playing alongside jazz legends such as Huw Warren, Ralph Salmins, Henry Lowther, and Art Theeman. Since his graduation, John is continuing to strive for excellence, both in classical and improvised music. He is easy to work with both as an individual and as a team member, whilst being fuelled by a genuine passion for what he does and everything music.
