After finishing my GCSE’s, I went on to complete my A Levels, including A level music, gaining an A. I gained a lot of experience playing jazz and swing during my A Level, but remained playing in theatre pits in amateur societies during this time also. I started MD’ing amateur theatre from the age of 17, starting with “Fame”. Since then, I MD an average of 15 shows a year, in different societies in the North East, recent ones being “Les Miserables”, “Anyting Goes”, “Oliver” and “The Full Monty”, “The Addams family” (further listed below). I have a reputation for being extremely creative, passionate and driven when it comes to my music and conducting, singing teaching, always giving one hundred percent attention and dedication to the music, the show and the performance and the learning and technical development of students. Adults or young people, everybody deserves music in their lives, and anything I can do to make that possible is welcomed. I also co-run and MD/arrange for “Vivo Swing Orchestra”, a North-East swing band that plays for events, gigs and also play for me during shows in pits. Having a good strong grasp of instrumentation and music theory, I have gained a lot of experience arranging all kinds of music whilst working with the band, and writing and arranging for specific events and shows. I teach at the Royalty Theatre Youth Academy, running music classes, in recorders, music theory, music from around the world and singing. I regularly get hired as an accompanist and have played for various vocal and instrumental recitals. Also playing clarinet and saxophone, I run and co-own “Clarion”, a clarinet quintet, available for private hire and also school demonstrations and performances.

“Joe is a very special individual. He holds the power to inspire and challenge his students in ways unthinkable. Personally, Joe provided me with a completely new outlook on the arts. He helped me to discover emotions that I didn’t even know existed, thus I was able to approach roles with much stronger foundations. Not only has Joe been a musical theatre mentor, but he has also acted as a life coach. He is very much an advocator of how we as human beings should embrace love, or what we love, and indeed stay ‘human’. In fact, Joe was a somewhat guru figure in my theatre course. He helped us to find reasons to say “this is why we do it”, and for that I am forever grateful to him.”
