Joe Standley is a Scottish double bass player based in Glasgow who graduated from RCS in 2020. While at RCs he studied with Ana Cordova, and Margarida Castro, as well as Niek de Groot when he was in Germany for a year on Erasmus. Since graduating, he has performed with Opera North, Scottish Ballet, Scottish Opera, Ulster Orchestra, Red Note Ensemble, Royal Northern Sinfonia and RSNO.

My Dad was a former double bass player and Joe played at his wake. It was beautiful to listen to abd brought back fond memories of my Dad. I can't recommend Joe enough not only is he a talented musician but he is such a lovely person. All the guests were praising his performance. Would highly recommend

It was lovely to meet and work with members of the Festival's Young Instrumentalist scheme, and the integration with BMS's regular players was, I felt, really effective and enriching. I do hope our paths will cross again in the future. I really enjoyed the energy with which we performed the Respighi; the orchestration of the Martin was, in performance, as exquisite as I had hoped, and I think we managed to find some magic and mystery in there. The Puccini was full of exuberance and joy, and successful in the reduced scoring.

They were exactly what we needed. Just the 3 of them, providing the basic tunes, a bit of calling the dances and then we were off as most of us knew the dances and just needed a wee reminder. They played 2 good sets and everyone was up and dancing.
