Joe is dedicated musician who studied at the Bristol Institute of Modern Music for a degree in Professional Musicianship, achieving the place by a series of auditions. A guitarist, however also a proficient saxophonist, he has experience playing gigs both nationally and internationally. In his time at BIMM, he completed teaching modules and also advanced his sight reading, theory and practical skills to a professional standard, which culminated in him being chosen to be a member of their house band. This had him working as a live session musician for the college and working in various styles ranging from singer/songwriter to rock to jazz to electronica.
As a musician, Joe works as a dep guitarist and session musician. His playing having been described as ‘laid back but powerful. Despite only being given the songs a matter of days before, he fitted seamlessly into our line-up for the night and played the parts brilliantly. He also performs regularly with his new band The Thames Delta, and is currently recording a debut EP.
Previous work also includes assisting world renowned, multi-GRAMMY award and Oscar winning producer Paul Epworth on the albums ‘Future This’ by The Big Pink and ‘Ceremonials’ by Florence and The Machine, working as an assistant to the engineer. This hugely valuable experience taught him about the specifics of recording and mixing techniques with one of the great British producers of today.
