About Joe

Electro DJ and Producer
DJ
London

My first introduction to the world of music was my relationship with the famous Factory Records when I was growing up as a kid in Manchester. I was best friends with Tony Wilson’ son (Tony Wilson ran Factory records and the famous Hacienda nightclub). This was my first introduction to electro music - I remember keenly a friend of Factory Records playing me Egyptian Lover records and thinking that his music is amazing and that’s what I would love to do. Obviously, the Hacienda was famous for bringing acid house and rave music to this country so that period of my youth growing up in Manchester obviously had a great influence on my musical tastes and future aspirations. I also spent many a year during my teenage years playing bass guitar in bands - I got so much practice that I eventually gained a grade 8 distinction in bass guitar from Rockschool! So not only am I a qualified expert bass player but I am also qualified to teach bass guitar as well. In fact, I even briefly taught bass guitar in London colleges to groups of young people. My main performing highlight so far was playing at the Ministry of Sound a few years ago. I was on the same bill as Paul Oakenfold. This gave me a taste of the performing experience (although like I said I had previous experience playing in bands when I was younger) which I would very much like to make my lifestyle. I have lived in various different locations throughout the UK but have nevertheless always brought the bass. Bass it’s the time it’s the place it’s the motion...

A fine blend of electronic/IDM that translates as well on the dance floor as it does it your head. Nexus 23 really showcases a remarkable display of talent. A sure fine artist to watch out for in the future.

Shortlisted for the imaginary Hardcore of the Year award is the newest artist on Serotonin’s Schmer offshoot, Pilly Idol. The alias is introduced by Joe Black from London who has produced under the Nexus 23 name for electro powerhouse Bass Agenda. The magic of numbers is transmitted also to the digital four-tracker, which will excite the crusty generation and Network23/Spiral Tribe fans.
