Jessie Morrell

I am a singer, pianist, songwriter, improviser and arranger with performance experience ranging from stage shows, charity functions and supporting gigs to a set at the world’s foremost debating society. My ability to play entirely by ear and arrange songs on the spot means that any request can be tailored to almost immediately; I can blend songs into a background-appropriate cocktail style, playing continuously for up to fifty minutes, or songs can be showcased individually with more striking arrangements. I specialise in popular music, especially that of the 1950’s and 1960’s, resulting in an online listening community in which I have been coined a ‘girl Beatle’ - my piano and vocal arrangements of Beatles songs both incorporate the best parts of a full band instrumentation into a single instrument and demonstrate an unusually wide vocal range, which spans from soprano to tenor. My main passion is songwriting, in which my style has been considered akin to the work of Paul McCartney, Billy Joel, Rufus Wainwright and Joni Mitchell due to my melodic and personal focuses, and my songs and arrangements have resulted in international collaborations with producers and songwriters, including musicians from California, Argentina and Slovenia. I recently moved to Liverpool for my Masters degree studies at the Liverpool Institute of Performing Arts, after having received a first-class degree in Music from the University of Oxford.
