Javier

My family and I are avid cruisers. Last year or so we went on the Carnival Valor out of Galveston and on the first night we were in the Red Frog Bar where they had a live 7 piece band with another 3 piece horns section. We were shocked by the musicianship of the band and the music selection that they picked and we ended up seeing them every night that they played long until the last song of the last set. The band was great and they all were rocking together like they have been playing together for months! Javier, the bass player was very energetic and enthusiastic when he played. He would dance to almost every song and would play each song with a smile on his face and could tell he really enjoying himself. The overall energy of the band and Javier was more than any other band that we have seen on any Carnival Cruise ship. When we found out when their last contract cruise date was, we all booked that cruise so we could see them again. One of the MAIN reasons that we booked the second cruise on the Valor was to see Javier and the band in the Red Frog bar and they did not disappoint. When we came back 4 months later they were even better than before (which was a huge accomplishment. Every night the bar was PACKED and everybody would stay there until the very last song). They added more songs to their song repertoire and even played some of the classic ones from four months ago. Javier was great with learning and playing the bass parts exactly like how the original artist played them and even added some of his own licks to the songs that really took it to the next level. We are sad to see that their contract ended. Since then we have cruised 4 - 8 times and there has not been another cover band on any of the ships that we've been on, Galveston and New Orleans, that come even close to the way their band, Texas Legacy, played, interacted with the crowd, and even the musicianship.
