Jared Prokop

Jared has been performing as a professional double bassist for 5 years, in chamber, symphonic and studio settings working out of both Los Angeles and London. He is an accomplished and versatile Double Bassist who has experience both in Classical and Jazz idioms. He also is a proficient electric bassist, pianist and arranger. Jared has extensive orchestral experience and has led the Royal Acdemy Symphony Orchestra under John Wilson and worked with a number of conductors including Semyon Bychkov, Christian Thielemann, Edward Gardner, Jac van Steen, Yan Pascal Tortelier, Ryan Wigglesworth, Robert Trevino, Christopher Warren-Green, Trevor Pinnock and Sir Mark Elder. He began his studies with David Young, Principal Double Bass of the LA Opera. Before coming to the Royal Academy, Jared studied additionally with Dennis Tremblay and Chris Hanulik, co-principals of the Los Angeles Philharmonic. At they Royal Academy in London, Jared now studies with Graham Mitchell (ENO Principal), Dominic Seldis (Concertgebouw Principal) and Tom Goodman (LSO Tutti). In addition, he has taken lessons and participated in masterclasses with Matthew McDonald, Bozo Paradzik, Edgar Meyer, Joel Quarrington, Gunars Upatnieks, Rick Stotijn, Alexandra Scott and Jirí Hudec. Jared has recording credits on the track That’s How I Got To Memphis for the soundtrack of the HBO series ‘The Newsroom’, as well as having recorded at Abbey Road Studios on two separate occasions. In addition to studio playing Jared is deeply involved with the Royal Academy of Music’s contemporary music scene, debuting several pieces by academy composers Tom Jones and Philip Raskovic, as well as leading the Academy’s Manson Ensemble conducted by Oliver Knussen. Additionally, he is a member of the substitute list for the New World Symphony directed by Michael Tilson Thomas (2019 – Present). Jared also works as a freelance musician for the Orion Orchestra, London Graduate Orchestra, London Youth Sinfonia and has on previous occasions been invited to play with The Jersey Chamber Orchestra and the Bergen Philharmonic Youth Orchestra under Edward Gardner.
