About Jamie

Theatre & Classical Organist, Multi-Genre Pianist & Double Bassist. Classics to contemporary, learned fast, played beautifully.
Keyboardist
Cambridge

Whether it's easy-listening classics or pop music, Jazz standards like "Fly Me To The Moon", Hans Zimmer film music or Bach Baroque, I use my perfect pitch to learn pieces very fast, to give your audience what they want. I have been playing the piano since age four and organ since age eight. I started at local churches and later played at prestigious venues such as St.Mary Redcliffe, Bristol, Lincoln Cathedral, Norwich Cathedral and Trinity College, Cambridge with a wide repertoire of classics from Bach to Samuel Coleridge-Taylor. Latterly I have played the Wurlitzer at Thursford, Norfolk and the Musical Museum in London, with pieces ranging from "Smoke Gets in Your Eyes" to Hans Zimmer's Interstellar. Famous organist Tom Bell once told me "Keep up your piano" and I have done exactly that, especially in jazz. I regularly play jazz standards with the house band at the CamJam in Cambridge, and easy listening classics at a Heathrow hotel on my Yamaha P525 piano. My classical roots make my solo style strongly influenced by jazz piano legend Bill Evans. Ideal for cocktail bars and boutique hotels, I can intersperse jazz or even pop music with calming pieces such as a Brahms Intermezzo or Eric Whitacre's Seal Lullaby. I started as a double bassist with the National Youth String Orchestra and graduated to jazz a few years ago. I can quickly fit into the bass section of a jazz or pop band, equally comfortable on a traditional acoustic bass as on my portable Yamaha Silent Bass, which I can take on a train to London! I graduated with a First in BMus studies at Goldsmiths, University of London with organ as my first instrument. I then went on to study for an MA Music at Kingston University and managed a distinction with jazz piano, showing my versatility and ability to switch instruments and still play to a very high standard. Other than performing, I am also working on combining my experimental composition skills with my organ playing to bring organ sounds to a mainstream audience and add a new dimension with a traditional instrument to experimental music making. Whether you need a Jazz pianist for a bar, an organist to play a Cathedral four-manual or a Wurlitzer for a party, I am the keyboard player for you! My composing skills would also make me well-suited as a keyboard player for a Prog Rock or Experimental band. Or if you want a change or complement to a bass guitarist, I can play your bassline on a double bass.

I always try my best to be flexible to help ensure your event runs as smoothly as possible. If timings change slightly in the run up to the event just let me know.

Can you provide an iPod/DJ service before and between your sets?

This is not applicable for organ performances that do not have a PA system. For solo piano, I use my Yamaha P525 which has its own speakers. When playing piano in really big venues or with a band, a DJ service can be provided for an additional cost.

How much time do you need to set up?

Organ: 30 minutes if I have not played it before, otherwise 10. Piano: 30 minutes if solo, in small and medium venues. 1 to 1.5 hours if it needs to be connected to a PA for big venues or playing in a band. Double Bass: One hour assemble Yamaha silent bass, connect to PA and sound check,

If I have a piano at my venue, are you happy to perform on that?

Yes, of course - as long as the piano is in working order and in tune, then I'm happy to play on it!

Can I pick the songs you play from the set list?

My set list is crafted from countless performances and learning what works best to ensure guests are entertained and have a relaxing time. However, I'm definitely happy to discuss and make sure we find what works for your event.

Are you able to bring your own piano or keyboard?

Yes, absolutely! I bring my own Yamaha P525 stage piano and stand. It can plug into your PA if needed.

Can you learn song requests before the event?

Yes absolutely! My perfect pitch and Zygonic learning method means that I can learn new pieces very quickly.
