Jamie Pye is a London-based jazz guitarist and composer with roots in both Australia and New Zealand. After graduating from The Victorian College of the Arts in 2018, Jamie relocated to Te Whanganui-a-Tara (Wellington) to continue up-skilling at the New Zealand School of Music—Te Kōkī. Since completing his studies, he has been busy playing in various line ups and contexts; from intimate jazz duo residencies, to headline performances showcasing his original music. He is often part of house bands for jam sessions around town, or as a sideman on other bills. In April 2023, Jamie completed his first 10-date national tour with his quartet around Aotearoa; including shows at the Creative Jazz Club in Auckland, and Hanover Hall, on behalf of the Dunedin Jazz Club. Amidst the NZ tour, Jamie recorded his first album scheduled for release in 2024. As a composer, Jamie creates music with the intention of honest storytelling and narrative. His compositions are complex and harmonically rich, while remaining musically accessible to all ears. Drawing influence from all music and art and traditions, he pays particular attention towards the work of composers and bandleaders Brian Blade, Kendrick Scott, Petros Klampanis, Aaron Parks, Mike Moreno and Gilad Hekselman. Jamie has experience performing a whole range of styles including jazz, latin/brazilian, blues, R&B, folk and more. He has an extensive list of repertoire and is always open to taking requests and preparing specific material for each occasion.

Reference for Jamie Pye To the Hiring Manager, I worked with Jamie from 2021 to October 2023 in my capacity as gig/floor manager at the Library Bar, in Wellington. Throughout that period I kept a small rotation of key musicians; space for sets was limited. Jamie was always on that list. He was professional, and honestly really pleasant to work with - both over the mailing list and in the bar. He played excellently, in a range of lineups and styles, and always with a mind to the room. I’d happily recommend him/act as a reference. Best, Henry Broadbent +64221964058 (NZ) [email protected]
