James Taylor

Enthusiastic, competent viola player. Lead viola and chair of Camden Chamber Orchestra, which has been my regular orchestra since 1999. I also play regularly with YMSO, and am regularly asked to guest with other leading London orchestras including Brent Symphony Orchestra, Westminster Philharmonic Orchestra, I Maestri, the Ulysses Symphony Orchestra, London Euphonia Orchestra, Kingston Philharmonia, Finchley Chamber Orchestra and Nonesuch Orchestra. I've played under the baton of many leading conductors including John Wilson, Nicholas Colon, James Blair, Levon Parikian, Jonathan Butcher, David Lardi, Orlando Jopling and Michael Seal, and performed with soloists including Joanna McGregor, Susan Bullock, Benjamin Grosvenor, Andrew Haveron, Christopher Cowie and Crispian Steele-Perkins. Have done lots of informal chamber music. As an occasional violinist, I've led the second violins for Basement Orchestra for several gigs, and lots of chamber music for weddings etc, As I conductor, I've conducted many performances for the 5-star theatre show You Me Bum Bum Train, and I've also worked with Basement Orchestra. My conducting repertoire is wide-ranging including works by Elgar, Mahler, Faure, Ravel, Vaughan Williams, Debussy, Bach, Mendelssohn, Britten, Purcell, songs from musicals and orchestral arrangements of pop songs. I've done lots of work with vocalists and enjoy collaborating with soloists.
