About Jacquelyn

Versatile wedding & events pianist: classical, jazz, and pop/rock songs in beautiful piano arrangements. Professional accompanist.
Pianist
Radstock

Somerset / Bath based full-time pianist, harpsichordist and organist. I am the official organist and pianist for the weddings at Babington House, and play at Orchardleigh House and numerous other SW wedding and events venues. I have a portable Technics piano, and a Roland C30 electronic harpsichord & organ, for venues where there is no instrument, and will create a wonderful atmosphere for your special day. Tailor-made song lists, the ability to play virtually any piece of music, and years of experience in playing for weddings means you can relax and enjoy your special day/event with exactly the music you want. As a highly experienced accompanist I have played for competition winners in numerous events, including BBC Young Musician, Rotary Young Musician, Bath Young Musician, Mid-Somerset Festival and other local music festivals. I put performers at their ease and help them to deal with any nerves. I can sight read virtually anything, in all styles. Musical education below: I learnt to play by ear at a young age, and was an accompanist from the age of 7, and a ballet school pianist at 12. I studied with Dennis Dance at the Guildhall, before continuing my musical education at Bristol University, where I gained a First in Music. After 10 years’ teaching and lecturing in music, from secondary and FE to HE/University post-grad level, I became a full time freelance pianist, harpsichordist and organist and now earn my living almost entirely from performing.

Customer questions

What if my timings change after I've booked you?

I'm usually able to be flexible, but obviously as much notice as possible is appreciated, especially if your event is some distance away. If it's a matter of playing for an extra amount of time, I'm always happy to negotiate.

Can you provide an iPod/DJ service before and between your sets?

I don't provide this service normally as I don't bring a sound system, but worth asking in case I can bring one.

How much time do you need to set up?

I normally set up 30-45 minutes before guests arrive, if I'm bringing my own piano. I also need two (strong!) helpers, usually available at the venue, to help move the piano in. If I'm bringing my electronic harpsichord/organ then one extra person is useful but not essential. I always phone the venue ahead of time to make sure I can park close by!

If I have a piano at my venue, are you happy to perform on that?

Yes, providing it is in tune and is used regularly.

Can I pick the songs you play from the set list?

Yes, and with a bit of notice I can usually play anything in particular.

Are you able to bring your own piano or keyboard?

Yes, this will be included in the cost.

Can you learn song requests before the event?

Yes - if it's particularly tricky to play I may ask for a small additional fee of £20-£30, but usually this is fine. A week or so's notice is useful for pop songs, 3-4 weeks if it's a particularly difficult classical piece.

What do your clients love most about your performances?

I'm easy to work with, highly professional, and very flexible. I also get feedback for my musicianship, sensitivity and ability as an accompanist, for being able to sight read virtually anything, and choosing exactly the right music for the atmosphere clients want for their event.

Which venues have you performed at in the past?

Over 100 churches and wedding venues across the South West, including Babington House, Coombe Lodge (Chew Valley), Wells Town Hall, Bath Assembly Rooms, Bath Guildhall, Bath Pump Rooms, Priston Mill, Grittleton House, Widbrook Grange, Tracy Park, Bridwell Park, and many others.

Which artists have you been most influenced by?

This isn't really applicable!

What is the most high profile gig you've performed?

Hard to say, but in terms of musical excellence, playing at the Mendelssohnhaus in Leipzig, a cello & piano recital as part of their Mendelssohn Festival in September 2012. In terms of celebrity status, I played for Amanda Holden's wedding at Babington House.

Thankyou from the bottom of our hearts for such lovely wedding service music which was amazing and meant so much to us. Many of our friends remarked on what a lovely service it was and thought the music created such a positive atmosphere .... the chapel at Babington is magical and we all loved the music ....so many thanks. Our friends are still talking about ‘your song’ - it was such a hit! Please pass our thanks to the choir and musicians. Together they really contributed to making it the best day of our lives.

Thank you so much for playing at Rebecca’s wedding which was really outstanding. I have never heard the Evias organ played quite so beautifully and that you were able to master its idiosyncrasies and our various unusual musical elements of the Service was truly impressive. The combination of your playing and the choir prompted a wonderful response from the congregation who sung the hymns so lustily . All in all your presence made for a really special wedding service. In addition the Trio was just perfect in the setting of the Teff valley and Howard’s House gardens and made the occasion truly special.
