Jacky grew up in Skipton, North Yorkshire and was musical from a young age. He began piano lessons when he was five, and by the age of 14 had achieved ABRSM Grade 8 Distinction. Whilst still living in Skipton he was active in big bands, and function groups across the North of England, gaining valuable experience for the future. In 2012, he received a scholarship to study at Birmingham Conservatoire on the renowned jazz course. He studied and had masterclasses with leading musicians from the UK and beyond, highlights including: Joe Lovano, Mark Turner, Dave Holland, Jeff Ballard, John Taylor and Maria Schneider. In his third year, he won the Birmingham Conservatoire Composition and Arranging Prize, and in his final year, reached the semi final stages of BBC Young Jazz Musician 2016. He has recently released his debut album Rough Boundaries, featuring his own compositions played by Birmingham Jazz Orchestra. He graduated from Birmingham Conservatoire in 2016, with a 1st class honours, and continues to play an active role as a musician and teacher across the UK.
