About Jack Hogsden

Regarded as one of the country’s top traditional folk artists, Jack Hogsden has played top festivals and concerts around the country.
Singer
Lewes

After what feels like far too long, Jack Hogsden has returned to the folk scene in full force. Voice, guitar, melodeons and mandolin create incredibly sympathetic and diverse arrangements for both instrumental and lyrical performance. His use of guitars is unique and percussive to accompany his songs, and his melodeon style has been regarded among the top players in the UK. His Sussex heritage, musical upbringing, and passion for traditions are shown in his stage presence; captivating, knowledgeable, always pushing the boundaries of his instruments, and finding the versions of songs and tunes you didn't know you needed.

Customer questions

What do your clients love most about your performances?

My performances are raw, emotional, and personal. I engage with my audience professionally and at ease, and will always read the room!

Which venues have you performed at in the past?

Everything from small dive bars to large scale main-stage festivals (40,000 ticket) - I like intimate venues, but I love larger crowds. I have also worked corporate events, and was the first musician to perform on the doorstep of 10 Downing Street.

Which artists have you been most influenced by?

Nic Jones, Martin Carthusian, Saul Rose, Simon Care, Andy Cutting, Hartwin Dhoore, Steeleye Span, and so many more.

What is the most high profile gig you've performed?

Headline at Sidmouth Folk Festival, 10 Downing Street, Celtic Connections (Glasgow), and several other large scale events.

What if my timings change after I've booked you?

I will always try my best to be flexible and work around you. If there are any queries, please do contact me through here, or through my record label - [email protected]

Can you provide an iPod/DJ service before and between your sets?

I can indeed! As long as the PA provided has the inputs, I can create bespoke playlists that still fit the theme of the event.

How much time do you need to set up?

I prefer to have 1 hour to ensure that the sound quality is of the highest standard, however this can vary depending on the event. I can have background music set up to play while I do soundchecks.

Can I pick the pieces you play from the set list?

Of course! I also work with a lot of traditional songs and tunes that aren’t on the setlist, so please feel free to enquire about specific materials.

Do you bring all the equipment you need to perform?

Apart from a desk, PA, and the cabling from the former to the latter, I provide everything else I need. I will need somewhere to store instrument cases and flight cases, but this is flexible. If this is an acoustic event, I have everything I need!

Can you learn specific pieces before the event?

If it’s an instrumental piece to be played on melodeon (and MAYBE guitar), absolutely. I am limited to keys, but I can discuss this further. I normally charge £40 for the time to learn and arrange a particular piece, but this can also vary and be discussed, dependent on the event.
