Jack Blakey

Jack is a 21-year-old Trumpet and Flugelhorn player and composer based in London. Having achieved an ATCL Performance Diploma while at school, Jack read music at Royal Holloway University of London under trumpet tutelage from two of the country’s top players, jazz musician Martin Shaw, and freelance professional Simon Munday, where he received a BMus degree. While at university, Jack was principal trumpet of the Royal Holloway University of London Symphony Orchestra, who played alongside the London Mozart Players and the London Philharmonic Orchestra at the 2014 Magna Carta celebrations attended by the Queen. As well as this, he was also president of Undergraduated, the university’s Big Band. Currently playing with 1920s style band The Volstead Orchestra, Motown/Disco/Soul band the SoulTrippers as well as his own combo the Forêt Quintet, Jack has played in many of the country’s top jazz clubs and bars including Pizza Express Live venues in Chelsea and Maidstone among others. In addition to jazz music, Jack also works within the Classical genre and has played in venues such as the Royal Festival Hall and the Royal Albert Hall, as well as playing with the Dorset Chamber Orchestra and the French orchestra, Musicien D’Europe. Jack also remains busy as a teacher, teaching the trumpet, piano, and music theory in three schools, as well as privately across London.
