Ivan Hoe

A session and live drummer based in London. I work in many different genres and have recording credits from big band jazz, blues, rock all the way through to thrash metal. Playing drums has always been a very spiritual activity for me and an inflection point in my life where I found my "voice". I love the physicality of the instrument and the feeling of making great music with other musicians. My first real break as a musician was working with Larry Amos - a well known blues guitarist in South Africa. Alongside that, I spent a lot of time playing indigenous music with African artists and also played jazz with the SABC Big Band. For live performance, I work as a freelance drummer and do regular gigs with a variety of bands. The music I play ranges from original bands playing rock or punk, to covers and function bands playing soul, funk, blues, reggae and everything in-between. I get a lot of satisfaction from being true to the a musical style or genre: In my early days in London I worked with a 7 piece reggae band which included 5 Jamaicans - giving me the opportunity to nail that groove. I have experience of many thousands of professional gigs. As a session musician, I have worked in many different studios and also have my own purpose-built studio from which I offer remote drum sessions. I've always been driven by the groove and the way a song feels and obsessed with client satisfaction. I am an experienced professional with a passion for creating music and entertaining audiences. I try play exactly what each song requires. I can also stretch out and improvise when required. Depending on the situation I can include electronic drums and sampling pads within my acoustic drum setup.
