Cellist
Birmingham

Isaac was born in the North Yorshire Moors and began learning the cello aged 10 at Botton Village Steiner School. As a young cellist, in 2005 he began studies at Yorkshire Young Musicians under the directorship of Penny Stirling and tutored by Clare Rowe. His first ensemble performed Dvorak's String Quintet in G Major at the Ryedale Festival with a master class by David Greed of Opera North. From an early age, Isaac has played alongside the cellist Jamie Walton and was privileged to be included within his highly acclaimed North Yorkshire Moors Chamber Music Festival in 2009, 2011 and 2014. Growing up in such a rural area led to Isaac playing in and around the city of York, with York Young Soloists and York Guildhall Orchestra under Simon Wright. He has played with the European Vacation Chamber Orchestra for 4 years, giving concerts around the UK and touring across Europe each summer. His studies began in earnest at the Royal Northern College of Music under the guidance of Emma Ferrand, before graduating from Birmingham Conservatoire under Hans Nygaard, Sandy Baillie and Lionel Handy. During his time at Birmingham, Isaac has showcased numerous works of young composers, in addition to working alongside the composer Heiner Goebbels. Isaac is a founding member of the Vellen Ensemble, with a debut recording of Haydn Trios and Mozart String Quartet in G minor released in 2013 and winning The Sylvia Cleaver ensemble prize in Birmingham. Since graduating, he has begun giving concerts around the UK as a soloist in addition to several recordings, and intensive study of the Bach Solo Suites. In addition, recent musical endeavours have seen a shift towards writing and recording with singer/songwriters around the UK, leading to numerous tour opportunities and media coverage. Isaac is in increasingly high demand from guitarists and singers. The instrument played by Isaac is a newly built cello (2013) by Yvres Antoine Gachet and kindly secured by Jamie Walton.
