Clive Mills and Dave Merrick have performed professionally together for many years. Clive is a long-standing professional classical, folk and blues guitar performer and teacher. He has also served as an examiner for Trinity/Rock School. Dave received awards from the Native American Flute Awards Organization, USA, in 2020 and 2021 for his playing and compositions on this wonderfully atmospheric instrument. In 2021, they developed the duo, “Inner Voice" and have played at festivals and venues throughout the South West of the UK and London. A recent CD was reviewed as follows: . "This CD is eight tracks of Native American flute music. It is a mix of guitar and flute for the most part, that produces a very haunting, atmospheric and expansive sound which will transport the listener to the great plains of America. It is definitely a CD worth listening to, apart from conjuring up various images it will provide you with inner stillness.Dave was honoured in 2020 and 2021 to receive an award from the Native American Style Flute Awards Organization for his work with the Native American Flute." Brian Inglis of Jeli Records, (The Jeli Note Nov/Dec 2023 Vol 9 Issue 6) The duo can entertain as well as enthrall drawing on many different genres to produce their unique sound.

“Vegan Organic Festival Review: The live music at the event was wonderful. There are too many great acts to mention but I particularly enjoyed flute player Dave Merrick teaming with guitar virtuoso Clive Mills as ‘Inner Voice’ –they brought deep relaxation to the evenings'.” - Giles Bryant, Growing Green International, Autumn/Winter 2021 Issue 47 (Mar 25, 2022)

Customer questions

What do your clients love most about your performances?

The Native American Flute has a unique ethereal yet soothing sound and the guitar is a wonderful instrument to combine with it. We have fun when we play and engage with our audience. People are curious to learn more about the Native American Flutes. We have several on display at all of our events.

Which venues have you performed at in the past?

We have performed in many different types of venues including festivals, more intimate settings such as dedicated music bars. We have created multi media, spoken word and live music events in a number of places including the Bath Royal Literary and Scientific Institution. We have introduced Native American Movies with spoken word and Native American Flute

Which artists have you been most influenced by?

Too numerous to mention Clive (Guitar) is very eclectic in his tastes, he plays classical guitar, blues, rock and folk guitar. So for Clive it's anything from Segovia and Hendrix and all things in between. For Dave (Native American Flute (though also a guitarist) his influences are more niche. e.g., Robert Mirabel, Sky Redhawk, Carlos Nakai and many more.

What is the most high profile gig you've performed?

We have done a number of festivals. We are more concerned with the atmosphere and feel of a venue than the height of its profile or prestige. To have been awarded a prize for the music by a Native American Organization is highest accolade I could ever wish for.

Do you have different line-up options?

We can on some occasions include a violinist

What if my timings change after I've booked you?

We can be flexible about that within reason and with appropriate notice

Can you provide an iPod/DJ service before and between your sets?

Yes

How much time do you need to set up?

Forty five minutes to one hour max

Can you roam around while you perform?

That would be difficult!

Can I pick the songs you play from the set list?

Yes - though out pieces are all our own compositions. Our set lists are constructed from the experience of many performances and learning what works best to ensure guests enjoy our music. However, we're definitely happy to chat through and make sure we find what works for your event.

Is all of the equipment (e.g. PA & lighting) included in your quote?

We provide PA but not lighting and the PA is included in your quote.

Can you learn song requests before the event?

We are a Native American Flute duo. I suspect you wouldn't book us if you wanted pop cover songs. We would of course do our best to please you with requests nevertheless. Please do ask and we will do our best for you!
