British Australian Mezzo-Soprano Indyana Schneider read music at Magdalen College, Oxford University, and currently trains privately with renowned Italian soprano Nuccia Focile. During her studies, she performed, produced, and composed music for productions ranging from Dido and Aeneas (Sorceress/Sailor/Spirit, Purcell) to Phantom of the Opera (Carlotta, A.L. Webber). On her performance as Feste in Sir Jonathan Bate and Georgia Figgis’ production of Twelfth Night (for which she also composed the music), BAFTA Award-winning writer, director and producer Peter Kosminsky wrote: ‘rarely can such a gifted singer have donned the mantel of Olivia’s fool, adding a glorious extra dimension to the characterisation’. Indyana has sung in masterclasses with Katie Mitchell, Stephen Langridge, Dame Emma Kirkby, and Andreas Scholl, and was recently described in Opera Magazine as ‘a fabulous young mezzo, the voice full of crimson depth and character’.
Recent roles include: Carmen (Carmen, Bizet) with Kentish Opera; Amastre (Serse, Handel) and Lisetta (Il Mondo della Luna, Haydn) with New Chamber Opera; and Ottavia with the Berlin Opera Academy (L’Incoronazione di Poppea, Monteverdi). Upcoming roles include: Dorinda in New Chamber Opera’s Il Pastor Fido (Handel) and Volpino in Lo Speziale (Haydn) at the British Embassy in Paris. Indyana is thrilled to be moving to Vienna this Autumn to join the Wiener Staatsoper Chorakademie.
