Violinist
York

Imogen is currently in her fourth year at the Royal Academy of Music, where she studies with Sophie Langdon. She began her violin lessons at the age of 5 with Nicola Rainger, and later learned with Penny Stirling. Growing up, Imogen played in local youth orchestras including Yorchestra, North Yorkshire Youth Orchestra and York Young Soloists, as well as attending Pro Corda North chamber music courses. In 2011, she was a member of the National Children’s Orchestra of Great Britain, and in 2013 played in the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain. Later in 2013 Imogen began her studies at St Mary’s Music School in Edinburgh, studying with Rosenna East and Ruth Crouch. While studying there, she joined the National Youth Orchestra of Scotland and received a Highly Commended in the 2016 Edinburgh Competition Festival Concerto Class. Imogen also visited the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester with chamber groups from St Mary’s to play in their Chamber Music Festival in 2015 and 16. She started at the Academy in September 2016, and during her first year co-led the University of London Symphony Orchestra. In 2018 Imogen gained the position of co-leader of the National Youth Orchestra of Scotland, and she and fellow students Caroline Heard, Katie Le Feuvre and Rebecca Bradley formed the Mousai Quartet. They have performed concerts in Winchester Cathedral, Welwyn Garden City Quaker Meeting House, and the York Unitarian Chapel, as well as receiving a Highly Commended in the Wolfe Wolfinsohn Prize for string quartets in 2019. Imogen also performs duo repertoire with the pianist Catriona Mackenzie, a colleague from St Mary’s, giving recitals in the York Unitarian Chapel, Dornoch Cathedral and the Spectrum Centre in Inverness. She plays on an 1852 violin by Pierre Silvestre and uses a Hill bow on loan from the Benslow Music Trust.
