Colombian/Italian bass, Hyalmar Mitrotti first studied Cinema and Theatre at the Université de Montréal (Canada) and at the Sorbonne (France) before entering the Guildhall School of Music and Drama (UK), where he studied with Susan Waters, Robert Dean, Laura Sarti, Peter Robinson, Graham Johnson, among others.
Winner of the 1st prize at the Léopold Bellan Competition and of the 2nd prize at the UFAM Competition in France, and recipient of a Sidney Perry Foundation scholarship in order to study in the UK.
Mr Mitrotti has sung bass baritone roles such as Perruchetto in Haydn’s La Fedeltà Premiata (France), Guglielmo in Mozart’s Cosi fan tutte (Opera Bastide), Calchas in Offenbach’s La belle Hélène (Paris) and Uberto in Pergolesi’s La Serva Padrona (Théâtre du Tambour Royal), José Castro in Puccini´s La fanciulla del West (Grange Park Opera), Pistola in Verdi´s Falstaff (Grange Park Opera), Nourabad in Bizet’s Les pêcheurs de Perles (Valladolid), Moralès and Dancaïre in Bizet´s Carmen (Orchestre de l´Opéra de Bordeaux), Ali in Rossini’s L’Italiana in Algeri (Théâtre Mouffetard), Gaudenzio in Rossini´s Il Signor Bruschino (British Youth Opera), Brissac in Varney´s Les mousquetaires au couvent (Dijon), Amán and Mardoqueo in Ponce de León´s El Castillo misterioso (France and Colombia), Dottor Grenvil in Verdi´s La Traviata (Opéra de Clermont-Ferrand, Opéra de Compiègne, Thessaloniki Opera House), Patrón in Catan´s Il Postino (Théâtre du Châtelet), Don Alfonso in Mozart´s Cosi fan tutte. Figaro in Mozart’s Le nozze di Figaro (Oper´Act), Sacristano in Puccini´s Tosca (on tour in France with Opéra Nomade and Opéra de Clermont-Ferrand).
On the concert platform, performances have included Händel´s L´Allegro, il Pensieroso ed il Moderato (Hawaii Performing Arts Festival), Brahms´s Ein Deutsches Requiem (Cathédrale de Chartres), Handel’s Samson (Regency Sinfonia), Charpentier´s Messe de minuit and Brossard´s Stabat mater (Cathédrale de Notre-Dame de Paris).
Avid recitalist, he has given concerts in France, England, Uruguay, Czech Republic, Switzerland, Colombia, with programs that mix standard classical repertoire and crooner ballads from the 50’s which suit his bass voice.
Hyalmar Mitrotti has taken part in master-classes with Opera stars like Ruggero Raimondi, Jean Philippe Lafont, Emma Kirkby, François Leroux, Michel Sénéchal, Teresa Berganza, He has performed with companies such as British Youth Opera, Grange Park Opera, Opera Fuoco, Théâtre du Châtelet, Opéra Nomade, Opéra de Saint-Etienne, Opéra de Clermont-Ferrand, Opéra Bastide, Teatro Colón, Opera de Colombia, etc. alongside artists like Bryn Terfel, Cynthia Makris, Placido Domingo, Victor Torres, Florian Laconi, Cristina Gallardo Domas, Vanina Santoni, Julie Boulianne, Laurent Campellone, David Stern, Rory Macdonald…
He recently was Graff in Schubert´s Die Verschworenen with Lyric Soul Producciones in Argentina, White in Sorozábal´s Black, el payaso at the Teatro Colón, Dulcamara in Donizetti´s L´Elisir d´amore with Opera Fuoco conducted by David Stern (Music Director of the Israel Opera) in France, Johann in Massenet´s Werther with Opera de Colombia conducted by Laurent Campellone, Captain Von Trapp in Rodgers&Hammerstein´s The Sound of Music with Misi Producciones.
His deep voice is also much in demand as a Voice Over Talent for TV and Radio commercials and documentaries in Spanish, French, English and Italian, all languages that Mr Mitrotti speaks fluently.
