About Hot Feet Jazz Band

Friendly and professional musicians playing the best swing, New Orleans, dixieland, vintage and trad jazz in town.
Jazz band
London
Public liability insurance of £10 million

The Hot Feet Jazz Band have appeared up and down the UK at clubs, festivals, parties and other events large and small. However you describe it - Trad, Dixieland, New Orleans, Swing or Vintage jazz, the band is inspired by the jazz of the 1920’s and 30’s with a few interesting numbers from other eras thrown in to spice things up. Their trade-mark is the variety, freshness and fun that they imbue all their performances with. Band line-up anything from a strolling trio to a seven-piece line-up with pa. Events large and small: Chelsea Flower Show, Kensington Palace, Blenheim Palace, Royal Ascot, jazz festivals up and down the country, down to a swing dance in a kitchen! I am a professional freelance musician and have been making my living from playing hundreds of gigs every year with my bands and many others for over 25 years now. I choose to work with musicians who have a passion for the music they play, and who like to convey this to their audience. I live in London and I'm lucky that this city has become a thriving centre for early styles of jazz, with many world class musicians, young and old, that I count myself lucky to play with on a regular basis.

The band was brilliant on Sunday. All that I had hoped for and more. Made our day really special. Graham managed to play the trombone and the mouth organ brilliantly at the same time as leading the band and talking to the audience. What a star!   Will def recommend them to others.  All best, Viv

Just a quick thank you for your magical efforts yesterday at my dad's party, we had lots of compliments about the band and your set went down brilliantly! There's not much that gets all the wrinklies up and moving these days,  so well done for achieving the impossible  :) A big thank you from us all to you and the Band

Customer questions

What do your clients love most about your performances?

The band is polite, friendly and respectful. With our music we can create a happy and positive atmosphere without being too intrusive. Our music is accessible to all ages, from very young to old - it's not unusual for people to say "I thought I didn't like jazz, but I love what you're playing". Often people will be inspired to dance.

Which venues have you performed at in the past?

Chelsea Flower Show, Hampton Court Palace, Kensington Palace, many London museums, galleries, hotels and restaurants, jazz clubs and festivals, gardens, churches, care homes... we bring the same attitude wherever we play!

Which artists have you been most influenced by?

Louis Armstrong, Duke Ellington, Jack Teagarden, Jelly Roll Morton, Laurence Brown, Bob Brookmeyer, bands of New Orleans, the many great musicians I have worked with in the UK and abroad

What is the most high profile gig you've performed?

Every gig I play is 'high profile' - I try to bring my 'A game' to all my gigs. My favourite gigs are often the smallest - maybe playing for a special family occasion in someone's back garden. I have played on large stages to large audiences though.

Do you have different line-up options?

We can perform as a duo up to a seven piece (or larger). Vocals can be included. The exact choice of instrumentation is flexible and if you have a preference this can be discussed.

What if my timings change after I've booked you?

We try to be accommodating if things change. We would ask to be given as much warning as possible though because on occasions some or all of the musicians in the band will be coordinating with other bookings.

Can you provide an iPod/DJ service before and between your sets?

As our bookings are often acoustic this is rarely asked for, but where we are providing a PA you are welcome to play music through it while we are on a break.

How much time do you need to set up?

Generally no more than 5 or 10 minutes, although we always aim to arrive around 45 to 60 minutes before we are due to start in case of travel difficulties.

Can I pick the songs you play from the set list?

You are welcome to suggest a few favourites for us to play.

Is all of the equipment (e.g. PA & lighting) included in your quote?

We can provide a small PA as part of our quote.

Can you learn song requests before the event?

If it is within the vintage jazz / dixieland / New Orleans genre it is likely that we will know it, or be happy to learn it. Songs within other genres should be discussed with us to check they can be played within our style. Usually we can oblige.
