About Helian

Helian is an amazing 5 piece folk band playing covers and originals! Trained and formed at Leeds Conservatoire, book to add some magic!
Folk band
Leeds
Public liability insurance of £10 million

Intimate, introspective, and picturesque, Helian's music radiates a warmth that invites you in. They are a five-piece folk band based in Leeds, U.K, blurring the line between modern ethereal sounds and classical instrumentation that spans everything from guitars and cellos, to fiddles and harps. Consisting of Alana (vocals and fiddle), Rhiannon (vocals and flute), Che (guitar), Ben (cello and fiddle), and Niamh (harp), the quintet met at Leeds Conservatoire, where they are all currently in their final year before graduation. Taking influence from the folk traditions of England, Ireland, Scotland, and Scandinavia, their sound pivots between smooth, shimmery, and high-octane atmospheres, while exploring stories surrounding location, love, loss, nature, the human experience, and family. Having all been making music from their early days, each member of Helian brings a unique pool of experience and talent into the project. Through music, they translate thoughts into something that can actually exist outside of them, allowing a true sense of self-expression that in return can bring positive change in people, help people through difficult times in their life, and create an aura of peace and togetherness in this world. Ultimately, Helian aims to share their music with as many other people as possible, while connecting and relating to others in the process.

Customer questions

Do you have different line-up options?

Yes, quite a few as we are all trained musicians the set combo goes on for in a variety! Here's just a few of the popular ones! Harp/Cello Cello/Violin Guitar/Voice Guitar/Voice/Fiddle

What if my timings change after I've booked you?

Just let us know, we can normally rearrange but will contact you as soon as we have collaborated between the five of us.

Can you provide an iPod/DJ service before and between your sets?

Yes, although we don't have a whole DJ set-up we can certainly play a pre-agreed playlist of songs through the PA system between sets.

How much time do you need to set up?

We usually set up about 1 to 1.5 hours before the performance time. As soon as our PA is set up we can provide a free playlist service to help set the atmosphere and get your guests ready for our live performance! If we are playing acoustically then the set up time if dramatically reduced.

Can you roam around while you perform?

No, we are stuck in one spot! The harp is too big! 😊

Can I pick the songs you play from the set list?

Our set lists are crafted from countless performances and learning what works best to ensure guests dance and have an amazing time. However, we're definitely happy to chat through and make sure we find what works for your event

Is all of the equipment (e.g. PA & lighting) included in your quote?

Our PA and lighting system is included in your quote. We usually require a minimum amount of space that we can chat with you about.

Can you learn song requests before the event?

If a song isn't included in our song list there may still be a chance we already know it. If there is a special song you'd like us to learn we are happy to do this for you. There is a fee of £30 for this service to take into account rehearsal times etc
