Helen Massey

Helen Massey studied at the Royal College and Royal Academy of Music, where she won the Peter Pears Duo and English Song prizes and was chosen as soloist for Sir David Wilcocks’ 80th birthday concerts. At the Royal Academy of Music, she was awarded the EMI Scholarship and subsequently worked with Dennis O’Neill at his Cardiff International Academy of Voice. Helen’s first operatic role was as Emmie in Albert Herring, directed by Sir Thomas Allen, and since then her career has taken her far afield, from India to Italy, although she has notably performed at the Royal Albert Hall, Festival Hall, Barbican and Kensington Palace in London. Roles include Blonde, Die Entführung, Oscar, Un Ballo in Maschera, Adele in Die Fledermaus, Nannetta in Falstaff, Norina in Don Pasquale, Susanna in Le Nozze di Figaro and Violetta in Verdi’s La Traviata. Concert appearances include Mendelssohn’s Elijah and Bach’s Johannes Passion, Haydn’s The Seasons at St. George’s, Bristol, Carmina Burana at the Hampstead Music Festival, Verdi’s Requiem at Oxford’s Sheldonian, guest soloist at the Nelum Pokuna auditorium in Colombo, an appearance as guest soloist with the Hamburg Symphoniker in Hamburg and with the English Concert at Liverpool’s St. George’s Hall. Helen also recorded Richard Strauss’s Deutsche Motette Op. 62 with the choirs of Kings College, London and Caius College, Cambridge under the Delphian Record label.
