Having strong Scottish roots, we play a mix of traditional folk tunes and songs along with some of our original compositions. Traditional reels, jigs and marches are given contemporary arrangements, together with rich songs in three-part harmony. Somewhat unusually, our ages range from 20s to early 70s, which at times makes life interesting but in fact only serves to enhance the creative mix. We have all been together for over ten years and have played at a number of great festivals including Larmer Tree, Carfest, Wilderness, Belladrum, Blissfields, Cornbury, and Big Feastival. In addition, we perform at folk nights, charity gigs, weddings and parties, with many an annual repeat . We find that our music truly appeals across the generations, and when performing storming instrumentals and upbeat vocal numbers, it’s not uncommon for the audience to start an impromptu dance wherever they can find space or even leap on a table. The energy lives on for set dances, where we can provide a caller to suit beginners and old hands alike.

Head North were the show stoppers when they first performed for us in 2015 that they immediately became an annual fixture. Amazing music from slow airs to breakneck speed jigs and reels. Wonderful songs sung in glorious harmony and when asked to do an encore we were treated to a full 12 minutes of brilliant music!!! Their energy and enthusiasm is contagious and uplifting. Every year this concert sells out as everyone who comes returns and bring friends. Head North remain the highlight of our year and the only band with a guaranteed slot on our calendar.

Head North have played at Albury Music Festival a few times, and they always get the audience on their feet dancing. They are not only skilled musicians, they are also incredibly nice to work with - good humoured, flexible and very professional. Their tunes range from beautiful Celtic ballads to lively jigs and they will adapt the playlist to appeal to the audience - in Albury’s case, music lovers who range from age 5 to 95. We are big fans of Head North, and always welcome them back.
